Noticed something recent with penalty domains.

I have had many domains burnt and left for dead, domains which have gone from first page to way beyond 500 spot. Recently I have noticed some of my old sites which were cleaned out off updates, ranking in the 100 / 80 spots, they all have one thing in common, they are all roughly three years old.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Well the domain age is an important factor maybe they made that a main factor now.

The point I am getting at is do penalty domains have a waiting period, a "sandbox". But a real one, not an imaginary one.
 
Maybe they completed their penalty period and now good to go again.
 
^^ interesting thoughts. I let go of some great domains because of penaties, so I hope that's not the case lol.

Two of the domains are still mine, the third is now one of those domains which has lots of shit links on it, some parking shit bought by someone else, all roughly registered this time 2011. All ranking between 80 - 100, all completely wiped off Google after six month or so.
 
Well, I will give you an alternate hypothesis....maybe they are coming out of penguin/panda 3.3 which happened about 3 years ago...(yes, i know there were some updates inbetween, but google says they are looking to soften these punitive algo's)

google employee said new penguin is coming out next week and maybe they are testing to see whats up...maybe you are part of the testing...

who fucking really knows, but glad to hear something good happening to you...
 
Were these domains all wiped out at the same time? I'm assuming no since you said the only thing they had in common was the age.

No, one was a churn and burn which lasted 10 month, one was a churn and burn which lasted 6 month and the other was a churn and burn which lasted a few week to two month.
 
few possibilities here in my opinon. One is that these domains have aged and stayed online so they have gained some credibility in the time frame aspect of SEO rankings. The next is that you had lots of shitty links that have now after 2-3 years been disseminated because the old links on these sites have either been hacked and the page now 404's, the website is no longer around, or the sites have been deindexed and not counted as strongly against you.

With all of those factors now these sites have a near clean slate. Try and spam one to bits, build quality to another and detail us on what happens. Thats what the community is all about here.
 
What type of links were pushed to these sites? Are they showing back up in SERP for main keywords? Maybe the links you pushed to these sites have expired therefore now you're ranking mainly because of their age. Who knows..
 
i saw same thing,old penalised domains start showing again in search results.i just forgot them for years but i think they lost lots of spammed links that i made years ago and they are now cleaner.

Just bog standard shit links, contextual web2 and articles. They are mainly showing for their EMD and they were all bought in October of 2011.
 
Panda update - it may happen bcs of the google update
 
Same thing happened to two of my sites. They aren't 3 years old, like yours, but they fell off the face of Google for a few months. One came back at around 40-50 and all keywords are now on pages 2-3. Didn't try to do anything with this site as keywords pretty much died. Might see if it can come back from the dead though.

Other site is a lil over 1 year old, died about 7 months ago. Last month I checked and it came back to top 60.
 
Penalised domains can get back into Google's good graces after a certain period of time has passed. According to the link in the article below, manual penalties do expire:

...and I think algorithmic penalties can sometimes expire as well. When one of my sites was penalised for over-optimisation (it had an unusually high percentage of exact-match anchor text), I didn't delete it. I just focused on other projects. After roughly 6 months, it gradually started rising in the SERPs until it got to the #1 spot.

Sadly, it got penalised again after a few months and didn't recover again.
 
Which type of links you used ?

IF you used some thing like comment/automated spam then can you post ahrefs backlinks chart ? (the chart in which they show number of backlinks+ref domains)

Assuming that they were spammed 3 years ago , that means you spammed blogs for comment links about 3 years ago and 90% of those comment links will be removed/dead by now. after checking few time google remove affect of those dead links (similar to the way disavow or plenty removing services work) And many people say that even after getting out of manual penalty their site is unable to rank well and remains under fifth page.

just my 2 cents.
