There's always a BHW thread, some YT video, an online tool or any other online content that we stumble upon and want to save because it may be very useful to a future project, but we never know where we saved it or can't remember it when needed to be able to make that connection and be able to connect the dots in order to have some results. Relying on our brain in the age of tools such as Obsidian and AI is just not smart at all.
Do you guys use any specific tool fo manage your IM knowledge in order to have your own library of information that may be useful for your projects? What's your workflow on it? Do you connect the dots manually or the tool has some interesting way of doing so?

I think this is such an important discussion and I dont see it happening aound the forums

I was wondering the same thing. I'm tired of losing important information

have you tried any tool so far? I've been in this quest for a while and have tried note backlink tools such as obsidian (and many others alike), notion, evernote... and catchall bookmarking tools such as cubox, anybox, besides trying to go simple and use apple notes or onenote
but I havent found something that really works. Besides we are in 2024, so it would be great to have something that could AI (locally if possible) and give you insights on your library of perspectives you may not realize and that could make you tons of money

Bookmarking links or saving them should do the trick. Then create a desktop folder and add in any ebooks you have.

I've also tried Notion and Evernote. I can't say it helped me much. Maybe someone can suggest better options.

thats a simple approach and simple is great for sure :)
But I feel like it does not help me connect the dots and I end up with a bunch of useless info that way

I mean if you really wanted you could train an ai on all the information but I feel like that's a bit of an overkill. maybe if you use my way then name things a specific way it could work out for you. Example Cpa:social media growth CPALanding page website Seo:link builder ect

check out Joplin. it's free and open source, comparable to Obsidian: https://joplinapp.org/

it's a very good way to organize all of your notes in a more-coherent way. it's very easy to get lost in a sea of bookmarks, individual notes, etc IME. it has support for a bunch of plugins too. whereas Obsidian wants you to play money to sync your notes between devices Joplin is free.

i use it for all of my trading notes so far. algo trading strategies, screener ideas, etc. i can quickly pull up every idea/note that relies on a specific technical indicator, or a specific trading strategy, etc. i'm starting to move all my IM/biz-related notes to it too. highly recommend.

That’s it? You’re disregarding Obsidian solely on the grounds you have to pay to sync?

...no? use whatever works for you tbh. i just threw that in for additional context for comparing the two.

Obsidian with AI embedding quite literally 'connects the dots'. Gets a big recommendation from me.
Notion is pretty nifty too.

what's AI embedding? it's being a while since i last used it. Is it a community plugin?
So you clip webpages on it and it connects them?

Short version:
AI creates numerical values for words. The words can be placed inside a multidimensional database, and from there the affiliation of given words can be mathematically calculated.

If you're interested in how embedding works, you should definitely look it up on Google. It's a very interesting topic.

There are several community plugins that connect Obsidian notes with AI embedding APIs. Different plugins work differently. Just search for Obsidian embedding plugins.

mind telling me which one do you use? any concerns on privacy on those? (I mean, no privacy at all for your notes in this case, right?)

I used a plugin called Smart Connections.

Yep, you're spot on. The privacy is pretty much just 'trust me, please'. The plugin is open-source, but I have not personally gone through the code so I can't say for sure, but I'm quite certain that your notes will be stored at least by OpenAI.
I wouldn't personally trust them any confidential secrets or any business related things there.

I use it for learning related things, however. So, pretty much just stuff that I really don't care that gets spied on.
