I want to take a 1080p stream from twitch.tv and transcode it to 1 or 2 lower quality streams. I am paying for a linux shared server with 1and 1 and they said I have to get all the software and instructions before asking them to implement it. Please point me in the right direction.

Shared server? Constant stream? What's your traffic? Going to guess you will very quickly overload the server. Take a look at Wowza media server to start.

Also, are you looking for this to be totally automated, or there be some manual processing. Is this user-generated content or your own?

Yes this is my own content. I want it to be automated but what do you mean exactly? I don't mind clicking a button to say "hey make this available in 720p" then another button to say "make it also available in 480p" each time I start streaming.

I'm trying to take a 1080p stream from tnelovel\vt.hctiwt\\:ptth and make it availabe in 720p & 480p at moc.tnelovel\\:ptth <---had to reverse the text of the urls. smart system btw tried llike 5 other ways of doin it.
