Not My Passion Anymore

The case might be money not coming in as expected and no new job/work to do and earn. Currently there is a low demand for web design jobs because of Ai.

This became my reality this year. I realized that I no longer want to trade my time for money, because time is the most valuable asset I have.

Following your passion is terrible advice for business. If you can only motivate yourself to do things that you are passionate about you will likely not make much money. Make your money then follow your passion.

I get that from a business standpoint : )

The tricky part is when something that starts as a way to make money slowly becomes draining because of the pressure over time

She’s been running the business for about 15 years now

Passing such statements 'it's not my passion anymore' is just an excuse. Ups and downs are a part of business, cashflow dried up and suddenly it's not his passion anymore.

Passion doesn't put food on table. If something is your passion but not making you enough money, always keep it as a side hustle until it replaces your current income or an income that you aspire to achieve.

Cashflow stress was for sure part of it but I think it wasn’t really a sudden excuse tied to one bad dip.

People get influenced watching gurus on YT who pass big statements 'do what you love', 'follow your passion' only to later see reality kicking expectations' ass.

This happens a lot to many people. My cousin has little knowledge of coding and was so pumped about taking a full stack course a few months ago, only for her to tell me a few weeks back that she’s stopped taking the course.

Her expectation was that she would probably start earning as early as possible
I already told her to focus more on sales and marketing now : D

She’s still young and I honestly think she would need that more right now.
I have a lot of guys on X who build apps, tools and stuff, but their marketing skills are zero and they are struggling

Passion... Uhm, don't want to sound like that grumpy, constantly pissed person again, but I got sort of culture shock that it's why a lot of people do these hustles. I thought you work to eat and pay rent! And after that you get the toys, travel, that cute silverware, etc, etc. I'm passionate about money eh. Properties, gold, etc, etc - gimme gimme.

Would say even that these 'passionate' people might cause prices to drop because when people want to work in some profession they're willing to accept lower rates just so they could work in their dream profession.

It is human nature. People cannot do the same things every day or for their whole lives. Human beings always need change in life.

Very true, mate... wanting change feels more like a natural part of being human : )

I hit another version of the wall....I made so much money and accomplished 1000x more than I dreamed of in the last 10 years....I'm not hungry anymore and I'm afraid it's a trap...I enjoyed so much gaming G and now that joy is gone.

It’s a strange good place to be : D ... Maybe you actually need this pause to recharge even if it’s not clear what that is yet.

Just don’t let it mess with your sense of direction though.

You know the story about when an alligator has eaten a full meal and is in a state of digestive lethargy
That’s the moment they are most vulnerable : )

Yeah, it was more about getting higher paying clients for her service : )

These days, web design alone is not really reliable and that’s why most people add a retainer service like website maintenance or content management as an add-on to their main design gigs.

This became my reality this year. I realized that I no longer want to trade my time for money, because time is the most valuable asset I have.

NGL... that reality dawned on me toward the last few months of this year as well.
Like they say about the curse of awareness... once you see it, you can’t unsee it : )

Time is the real asset and trading it 1:1 for money just doesn’t feel the same anymore.

There has to be better ways... that’s a question I’ve asked myself all year but it’s also what forced me to rethink everything and start working on a few things that could really help escape that trap

This won’t be an instant change maybe not for another few years.
But now the consciousness is there and that’s the best place to be. It allows you to start pushing yourself toward something different that can actually work out in the long run.

For a lot of people... it really is work first, life after. It’s a harsh reality : D

It doesn’t feel the same anymore. It feels like a rat race. The more you work, the less time and money you seem to have.

I am with you. I am now in the mind set of learning how to make large sums of money in the smallest amount of time possible. I’ve seen it done over and over again, so I know it’s possible and I know I can do it, so it will be done.

I felt that in the past when I did web design as well, but mostly was due to the fact I didn't made enough money, but also I figure that if I wanted to stay in the business I have to be in a constant growing competition so I've switched to something else. Never looked back since then and I am happy with it. AI makes it harder and harder to be in web design/web development at least the game rules has changed a lot and the field is oversaturated already.

I've decided to use those services for bigger and better purposes and use the AI in my process to gain some more time in the day or professional edge.

If I make enough money there isn't the: Passion term in discussion, money is money, passion is spending it!

I think many talented designers quit because they get tired of the 'client cycle' rather than the craft itself; sometimes a break is necessary to find that spark again.

I am not sure they were passionate about it in the first place, but the money they can make.
A passionate writer never quits because they’re tired or a writing; same for artists, etc.

Also, in my experience, people who quit are just too stiff and not flexible. The world is changing every single second and minute.
I believe the best way to make the most of your time here is to embrace every change and be flexible.

The value is time only.

You can lose money and make it back, but the time you lose is never recovered.

It happens to me before, i get bored while sitting all the day in front of my PC without travelling anywhere. No fun no Social media only work n work.. When my marriage is decided my husband put a condition that she will not going to work anymore.. Just being a housewife nothing else and without a single thought i 'd say YES.. After 5-6 months i want to do my work as getting that part of my life being habitual and having lot of time to do something. It takes me 5 months more to convince him for my work with all conditions as a wife, DIL, mother everything than i can work..

So as your friend getting bored to do the same thing so she needs a break, check her after 6 months or so, she will back to work again.. While roaming, all the fun she wants to do and getting fit. She needs her passion back that i can bet you. As it happen with me.

There’s rarely any niche now where things aren’t changing or competition slows down.
Even if it’s not about switching paths completely... you still have to be ready to constantly evolve with new stuff popping up.

AI like you mentioned, is one of those things that affects almost everyone : D
I almost let it hold me back too because I didn’t jump on it early. I thought it was just hype and noise like usual from people

There are things I do nowadays that I wouldn’t have even dared to try two years ago.
There’s always good, bad, and ugly to everything : D

That might actually be very true
It's something she's been doing for about 15 years, so taking a proper break might be what helps reignite the spark for her.

She even tried that by taking a vacation last year to Costa Rica, kinda like a soul retreat, but there was still always work hanging over her head.

I am not sure they were passionate about it in the first place, but the money they can make.

You’re right, the world really does require people to be more flexible than before.
It almost feels like you have to be good at many things just to stay competitive.

Like a few people already mentioned in this thread, passion doesn’t put food on the table. Not everyone gets to work in something they’re passionate about.

For most people, work is more about livelihood than love, and that’s just reality : )

Thank you for sharing that, Payal : )

I will definitely stay in touch with her. We already have a good relationship beyond just working together.
I really hope it works out for her this year, whatever she wants to venture into next

Same, I become a coder overnight when I need it and everything is faster because of it. Less money spent on random tasks for people on Fiverr

Sure, just an exhausted by work.. Take care of her and do what she likes you do. One day she will be back.

It happens and sometimes it happens just because of priorities.

Passion is a variable.

Yeah, she actually has some other priorities right now too

One of the big ones is homeschooling her son
