Not getting notifications for some threads I've subcribed

I noticed I don't get notifications for certain threads I'm subscribed to. I'm not talking about email notifications, I'm talking about these http://prntscr.com/f8gwo5

If I check the thread manually, it will get to normal for some time and then it will go back to not sending notifications again.

Did anyone notice this?

All right, let me explain how the alert system works.

The alert system let's you know whenever someone quotes your post, likes your post, uploads an attachment to a thread you're watching, or posts in a thread you're watching. However, the system will not alert you when a member creates a post on the next page unless you re-visit the thread (as you've already noticed). You'll still receive alerts whenever a member "likes" one of your posts and I believe this may apply to quotes as well.

Another example of when the alert system won't send you an alert is when multiple members like your post in less than a minute. Rather than send you a bunch of alerts for each member, the system will consolidate the alert into one alert with the name of the first member who liked your post.

Now, you might be wondering, "Why can't the system just keep alerting me whenever someone posts on the next page of the thread?" I'm assuming this is to prevent inundating senior members with large post counts from being bombarded with alerts every time an old thread is bumped.

So how can I check for threads that have new replies/posts that I haven't read? Do I need to check them manually, 1 by 1?
