Noob question: What is best web page software?

I have found Web Page Maker to be the easiest program for creating landing pages so far. It requires no html skills and is pretty straightforward so you might want to try it out. There was a download link on the forums a week or two ago if its not there anymore let me know and ill upload it or something.

i'd take one of the w3schools tutorials on basic html, get your basic linking, images, font changing, alignment, etc down and after you grasp the basics of the language you can move on to dreamweaver and the like and slowly integrate the more advanced stuff. Once you get the basics down you can figure out what most html/php/etc code is doing or the gist of it by looking at it.

I would jump in head first on Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition. In my opinion, if you want to be really good at web development, there is no tool that comes even close to VS2008. There is a huge learning curve but once you know it, you will be able to make a lot of useful websites and tools.

Agreed. However, many people do not aspire to "be really good at web development", especially the average online marketer.
jroc1111, if you want to have an edge on your competition in whatever markets you enter, I highly recommend that you become proficient at HTML, CSS, and a server-side programming language or two (but not until after you've mastered HTML). It's alright to start out with easy-to-use tools, but relying on them indefinitely can put you at a disadvantage, whereas having advanced technical knowledge will open so many doors.

I use dreamweaver with fireworks, with other programs used as needed but I think it a pretty subjective issue. It all depends on if you want to learn html or just do some simple drag and drop Those seem pretty well covered in this thread so I wont go into them. IMHO it still takes a little design knowledge to stop them from looking crap.

My vote definitely goes to XSitePro. Download a version off here to play with, and buy it (a worthwhile investment!) when you've decided and can afford it (it's worth it for the peace of mind and the updates.)
I'm currently working with WordPress since I'm focusing on blogs, but I miss the ease of setting up an optimized website with XSP.

I think it depends on what you want to do with it. If you're just going to be doing affiliate marketing or adsense then just start with squidoo.
When you need to seo your own sites, you can't go past xsitepro and wordpress.
In the long run you can't escape the need for html knowledge. Dreamweaver eventually becomes necessary. Before that you could just use alleycode html editor its free and easy to use.
