I am assuming this is the correct section to post this and if it is not, please let me know! Thanks!

I am looking to ping my site. When using a ping service, should I send the post's link (like if I wrote an article just now) or should I send my homepage?

For example:
https://www.yahoo.com/
or
http://news.yahoo.com/secret-spaceplane-mystery-mission-094500663--politics.html

Additionally, what are some good pinging practices? Should I ping a page every time it is updated? Should I ping a site whenever there had been some changes on the homepage? etc... Thanks

Hi,

You want to ping your new blog posts and your home page. Everytime you create a new post I would consider pinging the new post. It helps the search engines to notice that post especially on a newer site.

For my homepage, should I ping it along with the new blog post every time? If not, how often should I ping homepage? I heard overpinging can penalize my site. I want to learn the best SEO practices.
