Noob question, not sure what this method is called do you know

I was doing some research on a competitor and found that his link had a BL from a PR6 site, when i clicked on it it took me to a WP blog that has basically a long article with random links seeded throughout it. The site was 1 page and was very under formatted.

not sure what to call this method. Any Takers

There are lots of link building services that sell these kinds of links. They usually buy domains with PR then start selling PR 6 links.

The question is the value of these backlinks... Maybe it's from a PR6 domain, but it's basically a link farm, backlink and anchor is not in context, and most likely the domain will lose its current pagerank on next update.
I'd advise you to avoid these shortcuts and build for the long term. SEO itself is long term...
