Hello

I am planning to get a vps to host multiple wordpress and other scripts.

I am currently noob at this matter, do you have any good guide setting up VPS?

I am planning to get a 1 month cheap VPS hosting to just try things out..

I dont have any idea on this..

Like what to choose? A windows VPS or a ubuntu VPS for multiple website?

How to set up nameservers for my website.. I installed wamp on my localhost :

What is the difference with manage and unmanaged vps?

Things like that, I hope you can help me..

I dont want someone to install it for me, I want to learn it from scratch..

I just want to have some inputs and more opinion here.

guys ,
first off .. think what the VPS specs are and do you really want to allocate half of those resources to a panel ? whether zpanel , vestacp , virtualmin or whatever ?

its pretty easy and straighfordward
install os
install ssh keys
install httpd ( if not done)
secure server
install wordpress and mysql
and bamm ..
its a 10-15 min job ( around 1 min when you get the hang of it )

Unless you want to face lots of confusion, I would advise against hosting any websites on Windows based servers. Doesn't matter if the webserver is Apache, IIS or anything else - just don't do it on Windows. Reasons: lots of them, but mainly because you're just starting to learn. When you manage to know enough about getting your sites hosted on Linux based server, it would be easier to figure out how to do it on Windows. It's a lot harder to do other way around.
 
Don't get a VPS. A VPS is not for you, except you get a managed VPS, where the hosting company takes care of your VPS. You have no clue about hosting or linux and just should avoid a VPS.

Or then we just help them learn how to do it, just like Shark and ToG have done, instead of saying they should always pay someone else to do everything for them. It's not like you are giving away your methdo of earning 5$ a day or something, just helping a fellow blackhatter to learn something new.

Yeah, but you don't learn how to manage a server/vps by having a server/vps out public on the internet...
 
VPS is easy to configure and manage. I am waiting for my GF to get ready and I need to go out so I don't have the time to give you instructions.

If You can wait I can give you quick guide how to set up everything for hosting hour. In the time being install CentOS 36 If you have 1gb ram or less and CentOS 64 if you have more. Most of the vps providers you have a Panel that you can install what OS you want with just a click of a button.

Do this and I will help you with the rest, of course if you want ( I'm not doing this for $$ if this crossed your mind )
 
When setting up your VPS please don't take security for granted. If you do not properly secure your VPS hackers can break into your VPS and send DoS attacks, spam, ect. It's a running job to make sure that software and security is up to date. It's not a one time set and done type thing.

Basically VPS hosting companies provides two types of VPS service, i.e. managed and unmanaged VPS service. And the cost of the VPS also depends on the type of service you choose. Since in the managed VPS service, hosting company has been responsible for the server security, server configuration, server update and also usually managed hosting comes with the automatic backup and monitoring.

On the other hand, in case of unmanaged VPS service, you will be responsible for your server and the hosting provide will give limited support and also they are not responsible for any kind of date loss. That is the main reason why unmanaged VPS service is cheaper than managed VPS server. Apart from this VPS comes with Windows and Linux operating system. The choice between the two VPS totally depends on your requirement and your understanding with operating system. However, I suggest you to go for Linux server, since Linux servers are more secure than the Windows server.
 
Step one: sign up for cloudflare
> Step two: add your website to your cloudflare account.
> Step three: set your DNS settings so that YOURDOMIAN points to your VPS IP. (TYPE A)
> Optional: add CNAME record WWW is an alias of YOURDOMAIN
> step four: set your nameservers to the ones cloudflare gives you

then run
yum install apache
service httpd start

upload your files to var/www/html

if complete noob heres steps to
cd var/www/html
vi var/www/html/index.html

write code there

or use ftp (like filezilla) connect to server and upload your files to var/www/html file
 
If you are not sure then don't even attempt to run a VPS, especially if you are running shed loads of WP blogs. One slip up and someone can get in and run all over your box.

My opinion is, as you want to learn, is get a managed VPS to let someone set it up and get your sites online and then you MUST ALWAYS UPDATE YOUR BLOGS, themes, plugins and core WP.

On the side, buy a second VPS that you can mess about with. YOu cock up, log in to the control panel, reimage and try again.

Do not learn by hosting sites that are important to you!

I will say I do server management for people and once something is in your box its a bastard to get out, its not worth chancing it if you are making money from your sites.

You should go for unmanaged VPS with Linux CentOS as it will be cheaper yet reliable server. You can also install a free control panel for server management. Have you selected your VPS provider yet?
 
i would suggest you buy a centos based VPS with a cPanel/WHM license for VPS. That will solve many of your problems and it will be simple to manage

I would recommend since you are just getting yourself off the ground, to order a cheap CentOS 6 OpenVZ VPS, (at least 1GB RAM), and a cPanel VPS license, (can be gotten for as little as $12/month); then if you slowly learn the ways and means of Linux you'll be off in no time!
