While building backlinks everyone becomes obsessed whether the backlink is do follow (not nofollow) and what Pr is that page where the backlink is on.

From my experience and what I actually got, I got PR 4 for a domain that has all it's backlinks from PR 0 / Pr 1 websites.

More over, On another domain and while commenting on blogs to get backlinks. Google webmaster tools shows a backlink from a .edu wordpress post that has nofollow tag and this means google indexed the nofollow tag and indexed the freakin link. My website is on the first page (2nd position) on google for a popular term (health related) and is still doing good.

So to all those who spend half of their day posting about the nofollow myth, Just invest that time in backlinking where it is pr 0 or pr 7, whether it is nofollow or not. In the end it is just a backlink. Just get it from a good neighborhood and you will do just great.

I can't seem to be able to prove my claims without actually revealing my domain but that is not gonna happen so please just believe what I have just wrote.

I believe it, have heard this a million times before :P but I also do believe that NOT AS MUCH authority or SOMETHING has to be different... I'm sure we can ALL agree on that at least.
 
when a page is already index google will still consider the nofollow links. The spider will still count once the sitemap is already made.
 
If nofollow was a myth then I could sign up for 9000 facebook accounts and put a link on every one presto! See..

Multiple backlinks from the same domain will not get you much power. diversity is required.
 
no follow doesnt mean that Google wont follow the link, it will, it just means that the link wont pass any PR thats all.....
 
it depends also if the link and the page its from are very related to the niche its a super big big plus the ****************/nofollow wont matter then
 
i think most people would still rather debate it then actually work on it

No, google follows every do follow or no follow links.. But as you said above, it will not pass the PR benefit..

Did you noticed, when we post our links on those high indexed social bookmark sites, our sites will be indexed faster.. Yahoo answers, yahoo buzz, digg etc. google virtually living there.. some of these sites are nofollow..

Now, someone can do an experiment..
Post their links to high PR no follow sites.. then check after pagerank update.. how much PR it gets...
 
Yes google index both the links no follow or do follow but do-follow links helps in increasing the PR of the site and do follow links create the term called link juice to a site.
 
1. Leaving spam comments on blogs and other internet platforms is a form of artificially manipulating your search engine ranking on Google.

2. Google does not want its results to be artificially manipulated in this way. It makes the company look stupid, and is an annoyance in their quest to provide the most relevant results, in order to remain the number 1 search engine and retain their near-monopoly.

3. Google invents the nofollow tag, which invites webmasters presiding over user generated content (comments, web 2.0, facebook etc) to apply it in order to deter spammers. The nofollow tag gives webmasters the chance to say "spammers: I have informed Google, by way of the nofollow tag, that I cannot vouch for any links that you place on this site. As a result, Google will not take your link into account when determining your relevancy for a given query, so don't bother spamming my site".

4. In accordance, Google does not take nofollow links into account in its ranking calculations - not PR, relevancy, anchor etc, it doesn't matter. Google has made the algorithm so that even if the nofollow links you get can show up in webmaster tools or get your site indexed, they will not help you to rise in the serps.

Think for a minute and read what I've written again. What possible reason would Google have to take nofollow links into account for serp placement?
 
Through my own, albeit small scale and incomplete tests, I have found that with Google, n0follow is d0follow, but gives no noticeable link juice or anchor text love; nor did it get my unindexed sites indexed. This particular test was about 5 months ago on a couple of new sites (along with a batch of sites that are primarily being made for testing purposes). I pointed some n0follow links to them on a very popular platform and Google came running over fast - within seconds in fact. But as of 10 minutes ago, those particular sites are still un-indexed. Other sites tested received no link/anchor love - until I went d0follow.

Even though they have stated on their blog that they don't, Google obviously does follow n0follow links. Quite why they follow a n0follow link without it passing any discernible link benefit to the site, I can only speculate.


For me, n0follow is only worth the effort if it is going to bring in direct, targeted traffic. For manual link building, I do not waste my time with n0follow links.


No offence intended, but I have to say, I think the debate for n0follow link 'die hards' is wishful thinking. There are fewer and fewer platforms that are d0follow; add to that IM has soared in popularity with huge influxes of people hoping to make money and buying into the dream that various black/white hat tools offer. We end up with masses of people spamming away with no real particular spamming skill and/or thought, onto a smaller and smaller pool of mass-available resources. Invariably, more platforms go n0follow. Trust me ? because of that, I really wish n0follow mattered in passing some kind of link love, but through my own tests it has shown it doesn't. Perhaps others are getting different results, but I tend to feel this would be down to other variables.
 
Yeah i agree. Nofollow links are important too. And yes, google do consider them as backlinks.

Well thought-out post.

I must add, though, that most of the internet is in fact do - follow. I simply do not have an issue finding do - follow spam locations because I have built up such a large list. The linkdrop sites are out there, keep searching.
 
nofollow = don't give any pr boost

the site can still be indexed or "found" by google. People don't understand that. Noindex would prevent the site from being indexed or found through your site. While no follow just means don't follow the site (so it won't spider it that second or update the cache or give it pr/credibility through your site).
 
When thinking of n0follow think of it this way, the whole idea in getting ranked/indexed organically is for it to look natural, if every link pointing at your site is d0f0llow, how natural does that look?
 
I did another experiment today. I'm targeting a high search volume health related term. The first and second result are both hubpages and one of them with 124 backlinks and the other with 31 backlinks.

For the one with 124, it is all blog comments on related wp blogs. Out of these 124, 124 (100%) were not follow and this proves my theory that google still values links with not follow tag. Maybe they use it only for PR but for ranking it is still good.

For the other result with the 31 backlinks, they are all profile backlinks. some on forums and some on bookmarking websites. So profile backlinks also work.

I'm now analyzing the sites they used for backlinks and will be posting to them as well as my current activities in blog commenting / profile building.

Google have always indexed nofollow links. Nothing new about that. So, what's your freaking point!? Now you noticed as well and that means the nofollow attribute is just for 'fun'? Get real!
