No Traffic Still Helps Topic Authority?

Hi BHW fam,

So my niche has some sub-topics that the top ranking sites don't even have traffic, if I post pages/articles about a sub-topic on my niche that is not getting any traffic does it still help my topical authority all round or should I only be focuses on the topics in my niche that are receiving traffic?

Traffic is always great but it doesn't have anything to do with Topic Authority. You get authority when other people (pages) consider your content relevant. Generally with links. Incoming traffic through that links could be interesting but not necessarily critical for such authority.
Still you could consider merging some pages with other better ones if you feel they provide low value in any sense and your page is big enough to be worth. If your site is 50 pages wide, don't waste your time merging pages with no traffic. Even if your site is 1000 page wide, I would not bother with this.

You need to cover some topics where you might not get traffic directly but that will help you to improve your topic authority.

Google's algorithms are smart enough to recognize in-depth content coverage in a niche. While direct traffic to those sub-topics might be low, the overall site's authority can see a rise, indirectly aiding rankings for your main keywords. Did something similar last year and saw a decent uptick in SERPs for primary keywords.

If there are any search interest for these specific topics then go ahead and write for them. If you are sure there aren't any interest in the topics, you might just be wasting your time writing for such topics you created yourself.

By the way, some keyword tools would tell you some keywords have 0 search volume but in reality they don't.

Yes, as long as the page is indexed, it increases your topical authority.
That being said you will not reach the topical authority with a few articles here and there, you need a lot!

You need to cover the whole topic deeply.
Once it's done, you will be surprised by the kind of competitors you can outrank without any link building! (But the magic happens only after a Google core update)

Topics must have decent search volume
Instead of relying on search volume data from SEO tools, type in variations of the kw and see what google suggests
