No traffic after years

Hi,

I made currency converter website (something similar like XE dot com)
Problem is even after few years of daily updates I still have almost no traffic from Google compared to competition. Site is actively visited by Google bot and like 75% of content is indexed (thousands of pages). Also no prior history on the domain as I am first registrant.

I think onpage SEO is decent because I analyzed ranking competitors sites and applied what they were using with some twists

Also I have another site in different niche and exact same problem.


Is my problem because of no backlinks? Shoulda I try to make few backlinks with tools like GSA SER? those domains(sites) are 3+ years old

Advertise on BHW
You can get direct traffic using social network or you can share in business/economic forums based on your niche

If you have budget, you can try Bing Ads or G adwords or Facebook ads

But yes, you'll need some backlinks, maybe web 2.0 as a start and some social signal

Have you even seen the Moz metrics in open site explorer for XE.com? It's like DA90+ with links from 10k root domains. A 'few backlinks' ain't gonna cut it.

XE is the exemplar brand in this space. I'd walk away and focus on something different.
 
XE was just an example. There are lot of small websites with similar/same content that still receive traffic from Google , but yes they have at least some backlinks.

I was just hoping that after years of updated content Google would start sending at least little more traffic -- but no, google is sending same amount like few weeks after start - almost nothing.

^^^^This, unless you have made a site that is better than XE or has a USP then you will never be able to compete.

You can have all the content you like but if you have no backlinks, how are people going to find your content?
If you had spent just a few hours reading about back-links you'd realize how important they are. Having up-to-date content is half the battle.

You need to give Google a reason to send traffic your way, they won't do it on their own.

Buddy, I feel your pain. I used to make websites and launch them and think yeah everyone's gonna love this and it's gonna be awesome. And then no one came. Finally after a long time of doing that I'm taking the time to learn SEO so there is actually a point to building sites.

Part of it is knowing how to research the competition as well as the keywords. In this case the competition is way too hard to beat, so you might be attached this but it's probably not going to have a tonne of value to try rank for. If it's ur first time learning how to rank something you really want to pick something that is easy. Once you've got the skill then move on to harder targets but never ever make the mistake of thinking you can crush a DA90+ site unless it's worth millions to do so

Anyway, if you wanna learn how to rank and get traffic from google do some reading up on PBNs, expired domains, keyword research etc.
 
there some twist that you can do

As op mentioned, he has thousand pages indexed, which i assume the contents is about business or economic niche, you'll have hundreds of kw you can target

You can target low/easier economic kw based on the article which is the most informative with your currency converter embedded
 
OK, i will try to focus on backlinks. Going to analyze competitors backlinks to see if I can place mine somewhere.

But here is a thing take for example some obscure query: ANG to KWD or another "ANG to KWD"
according to adwords keyword planner nobody is searching for these two and its not showing any numbers or competition

On first page of search results there are lot of strong sites including XE
but after page 5 or 6 search quality starts going downhill with non related sites.

Problem is mine is nowhere to be found even not on the last page


but if i do query site:mysite.com ANG to KWD I can see my page is indexed with keyword in title and description but yet not in SERP at all

Dude, why you bother with kw that nobody is searching for?

There are a lot of factors that you'll need to check (on page seo, quality backlinks, etc.) if we are talking about serp rank

If this is something new for you, it would be better to take some times reading lightningblitz thread

dont build tier 1 backlink using GSA
just focus on high quality manual build backlink for the tier 1
try about 30-50 aged web2.0 properties contextual backlink first, wait 1 month for see the result.

if there is no traffic after two month, i think you better change your domain
 
If you think you are targeting a search term but Google isn't ranking your page for that search term, you have some problems with your on page SEO.
 
Look at some smaller sites.
See what terms they rank for and how much traffic there is.
Then look at their respective backlink profiles and see what sort of links they have.

Then you need to make an honest assessment - can you build similar quality and volume of links, how much will it cost you and in return can you make a profit if/when you rank.

By the sounds of comments from others, the answer may be no.

Might be hard to walk away now but if it's the right thing to do it will only get harder.
 
maybe get a coupon for bing and adwords and start getting some visitors, maybe put up a fb page link so the ad people also might like your fb page as well.
Maybe if Google see visitors liking and sharing it might be ranking again, getting that buzz out there.
Also if it is also happening to your other site, could be the layout is not great and doesn't flow nicely.
