No recession for online dating sites

Maybe misery loves company? The sour economy is driving scads of singletons online to look for love. But money worries mean people are scaling back on actual dates.

Housing prices are plummeting. Jobs are evaporating. And the economy, as a whole, is in free fall.

But despite -- or perhaps because of -- such relentlessly bad news, there's an up side -- for daters, at least. Singles are wading into the online dating pool in record numbers, giving virtual matchmakers their best traffic figures in years -- and users even better odds for finding a snuggle buddy, a fling or the One.

I used to work for datinggold. If someone really wants to do a dating site hit me up. It will take a lot more work than you expect though.

I knew a guy who owned a 5 year old dating site, for the last 3 years he didnt touch it banked $20k a month, sold it for over half a mil.
 
It makes sense. I remember a few years back, most of my friends and even me would consider a loser someone looking for a date online. Now it seems to be very common.

I wouldn't give all the credit to the economic crisis though, the fact that it is not a taboo anymore and the increased popularity are a couple more factors too IMO.
 
I guess people are trying to find other people to shack up with to save money on rent/mortgage :)

It might have had 0 new traffic, just members returning and members that forgot they were paying for it.

It was all recurring income not new sales.
 
i have 2 dating sites that ive had on the back burner for a couple of years now and need to move forward with at some point during 2009 - one thing i have noticed over the past few months is a definite rise in adsense comission...

my advice for anyone doing a dating site is optimize/promote it for either a niche/fetish/local market or all three together! LOL

i used this on one of the sites and its pretty good straight out the box - if i recall though i had problems optimizing it though...

the other script i have is called matchmaker i bought it like 3 years ago and dont know if you can still get it, support for it was crap - my site is positioned well for its niche and its getting lots of members for the free trial membership but no one is paying after the 3 day trial is up?!?!? its has like 350 real members too... i need to take a time out and look at it as it could be some good $$$

thinking of creating a new one using joomla....

got another huge niche im working on monopolizing on right now - but the dating sites its next in the pipeline - thanks for the kick up the ass i need it! LOL

whats funny is that there is a guy promoting another local dating site... (which is far inferior to mine as far as i am concerned) but hes putting up all these signs everywhere and i mean everywhere...

anyway when i last checked my stats most of the key terms referrals i was getting where people actually typing in his domain name in the search engines... when i checked for some reason my site came up higher than his.... i think its because they both have the word singles in the domain but mines hyphenated and his isnt and thats mines optimized and older... perhaps thats the cause of the rise of adsense and not necessarily that report... maybe i should just sell him the site! :)
