Hey guys, so this is just a quick question, about a week ago in g webmaster tools I had a site that had about 50 links to my site, and it was at position 15, well, today I just checked and I have 150+ links. But I am still sitting at 15... Is this normal? I am still trying to figure out this whole SEO thing so... Always learning right?

    Thanks ahead of time,
    Jason

Yes this is very normal. The Search Engines might have indexed your links but not have made there changes yet. Or simply its the Big G update, and you need quality of links, instead of quantity. Just keep pumping those good links out. You will make it to page 1 in no time. Wish you the best :)

A lot of factors go into that...for example, are the 100 new links:
-From the same domains as the first 50 links?
-All from the same domain themselves?

A diversity of domains is better for ranking.

Then you have to consider more mathematical factors:
-What is the domain PR and page PR of the new links?
-How many outbound links are on the pages with your new links?

For example, a PR0 or N/A PR link with 5000 outbound links already on it is basically just a spam link that will do absolutely nothing for you in small quantities, whereas a PR9 link with 1 outbound link (your link) will do wonders. Those are just two extreme examples (well, the first is actually pretty common) that can tilt the link value scale.

Also, you may just need more links. I often need thousands of links to move. So just build more and see what happens.

I am dealing with a similar situation but I am competing with some websites who are buying ads during super bowl... so it is tough but I am happy cause I danced ahead of him for a couple of hours today so I am going to beat it in a long run. Good luck.

I disagree. With the new G update, more links can do more harm than good. Mass back-linking days are over my friend. I would be very careful once you reach page 1. At that point, Google scrutinizes your backlinks, and if notices high volumes in relatively short amount of time, it will send you a few pages back. What the heck do I know!

OP: what kind of links are you building? What program are you using to build them? Are you using proxies?

Well, to answer a few questions as well as yours teenie, the site is about 3 months old, it has great on site seo, the site right now is 5 pages (i think) and two of the pages are the big traffic pages - the homepage (which is for kw 1) gets 18k searches/month and the competition for that kw is 46k "in quotes" and I am currently at position 15 on page 2. The second kw gets 60k searches/month and has 460k competing pages "in quotes" and I am at position 16 (page 2).

In webmaster tools it shows I have 55 domains linking to me, the biggest is 50 from squidoo... I haven't done much linking on my own, but have a subscription to basstrackerboats link pushing (5 per month) so the site has had I think 6 or 7 pushes, in the last month and a half. I also bought a gold package from MrE's article marketing service, but I hate to say it wasn't worth the money... My homepage keyword before the service was at position 16, now it is at 14 so I paid 147 for two spots moved... I don't know, I mean it is movement so I guess its fine but I would think that with the small number of competing pages I would get onto page 1 with that... Anyway that is all for now, I am posting this from my phone so, my thumbs are tired lol. Have a good one guys.
