I hope this hasn't been post before since I couldn't find it when I searched.

A woman claim ownership of the sun and now she wants to charge those who derive a benefit from the sun's energy.

Here the news:

Alright, apart from this not going to work out for her she would get soooo fucked. Anyone ever thought about all the skin cancer caused by the sun? I am considering to go back to Australia, get some mate's relative who has skin cancer because of this and then sue the f#ck out of her. Anyone who now has an accident because the sun blinds them = > sue her

If you don't want the sun to shine on a particular part of your property = > sue her because her property is infringing yours. Your cloth bleached while being hung outside ? Sue her

Oh goody, now I have someone to sue when I get an unnecessary tan from that damn sun.

Ridiculous, if I was the owner of the universe I would let her pay rent for the space the sun takes. $1 per square meter, that's cheap isn't it? ;-)

Sun's total surface area is 6.1 x 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 square meters.

I'd like to know how many people really are trying to sue her

Below is the article, my comments are in blue.

MADRID (AFP) - After billions of years the Sun finally has an owner -- a woman from Spain's soggy region of Galicia said Friday she had registered the star at a local notary public as being her property.

I do not recognise her claim, nor the jurisdiction the claim was made in. (see the end as it will make sense then)

Angeles Duran, 49, told the online edition of daily El Mundo she took the step in September after reading about an American man who had registered himself as the owner of the moon and most planets in our Solar System.

Good for him, last I heard: he's doing time for fraud and gambled away most of the 7 million he made selling worthless paper to chumps.

One thing that I always found suspect of his claim, was that he never actually put down any markers on his so called claims. Its standard procedure, Russia did it recently by placing a Russian flag on the sea floor of the north pole.

There is an international agreement which states that no country may claim ownership of a planet or star, but it says nothing about individuals, she added.

See previous comment.

"There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law. I did it but anyone else could have done it, it simply occurred to me first."

The "No snag" bit: whats the old saying: A fool and his (her in her case) money are easily parted.

The "I backed my claim legally" and "I know the law" bits: She really has no clue, also the guy she got the idea from actually filed his claim at the UN. How would she back her claim when I can point to common ownership as well as known and accepted claims: sun worshipers, the sun is God's sun - that kind of thing comes to mind.

I didn't forget the "I am not stupid" bit: That's just too easy.

The document issued by the notary public declares Duran to be the "owner of the Sun, a star of spectral type G2, located in the centre of the solar system, located at an average distance from Earth of about 149,600,000 kilometres".

Again: I do not recognise her claim, nor the jurisdiction the claim was made in. If it was a local Spanish notary and not an International Notary - then I have some used toilet paper, that has more worth then her so called claim.

Description needs some work, she should have taken a look at the Pioneer plaque.

Duran, who lives in the town of Salvaterra do Mino, said she now wants to slap a fee on everyone who uses the sun and give half of the proceeds to the Spanish government and 20 percent to the nation's pension fund.

I'd like to see her prove that I and 6.5 billion+ other people "use" the sun, then collect the proceeds.

I'll comment of the distribution at the end.

She would dedicate another 10 percent to research, another 10 percent to ending world hunger -- and would keep the remaining 10 percent herself.

"It is time to start doing things the right way, if there is an idea for how to generate income and improve the economy and people's well-being, why not do it?" she asked.

So her bright Idea involves giving 50% of the income to the government - the Spanish government, a government that has proven that it is incapable of handling money (just like every other government that's ever existed, in every other country). The 20% to the nations pension fund - would be depleted within minuets curtsy of the bankers - it would be too much money to resist.

"10 percent to research, another 10 percent to ending world hunger": noble ideas but the biggest problem of these two areas is money itself.

I could go in to how the worlds farmers in the 1970s produced more than enough food using essentially the most inefficient farming methods around (monoculture industrial farming - still the main method of farming today) to make every man woman and child obese. Based on just the reported UN figures, don't forget that a lot of farmers don't report their yields - never have and never will.

As well as how more food went and still goes to waist, before it ever gets to the end consumer.

And how today its still the same, the problem being money and the way it's controlled.

But I have better things to bring up like: improve the economy and people's well-being. Money is tight especially in Spain, so how does taxing everyone on the planet even more - improve the economy and people's well-being.

Why should she care, she'll get 10% - so her well being will be improved, and maybe the economy around her.

Oh and I forgot to mention, where's the contract between her and each and every inhabitant of this planet. She first needs consent from everyone to be taxed and a contract as the sun is providing a service. But you don't need a contract to sue her, because of the nature of the sun - your effected by it in countless ways. E.g. The wind blows the roof of your house, sue her - as the sun is the cause of the atmospheric disturbance known as the wind.

Here's a funny one: she could be sued for not having a warning label on the sun or not making it clear enough.

If she just try's to collect money from the "humans" that's discrimination based on species - a species which isn't even the dominant one. Fungus out number the human population.

Some people... Wonder what her plan will be if you don't pay your bill? Her mind is on the right track but trying to monetize the wrong thing. Someone should introduce her to IM.

Please, please don't - she'd be the rehash queen of all time. Or worse yet: the ultimate terminator of working methods. New software/method comes out and she'd out source it to death in less than a week. No twist - just slash and burn till the next new method turns up. While complaining that her 50 billion sites don't work.

Better leave her to owning the biggest host potato around. Everyone needs a good laugh and she's decided to be it - till she wises up and gives up her ownership. Shouldn't be too long a wait, not with all the lawsuits that will be on their way. Especially from the insurance companies.
