Does this mean the Lounge can now be overrun with Pollyanna threads? It can downpour, but we'll all say that it's sunny? If you are optimistic and don't want to hear about it, why not just skip the thread and just read the on topic ones for this forum? What's the point of a lounge if you can't go off-topic?
Why are folks so selectively thin-skinned when it comes to end-time concepts? My point is most people don't bother reading 95% percent of the posts in a forum lounge, or the entire lounge itself, precisely because the threads here are not essential, serious, or on topic. Why is it so important to not 'waste time' on this particular topic, as opposed to wasting time on epic fails, sex tapes, wrestlers, or my girlfriend dumped me posts? I don't need to waste time being convinced by the arguments in those posts, or think they serve much purpose on a IM board (other than clutter) either.
Why not bar "how do I make $300 in 3 days, please hold my hand" posts, which are a lot more wasteful where it really matters, as those threads keep showing up in the on topic sections? What's so special about 2012 lounge talk that threads have to be barred rather than skipped over?
Because we (as in the staff) rarely have to spend 5 minutes reading and manicuring "How do I make $300..." or "My girlfriend dumped me" threads to curb insipid flame wars. It isn't about being thin-skinned; I could honestly care less if you believe that the world is going to end in two years. It is about managing an international forum with thousands of active members in a manner that keeps things as copacetic as possible. Why are folks so selectively thin-skinned when it comes to end-time concepts?
