Hey there! ^_^ I'm Patrick and I recently got into the business of SEOing the Google and what not. I'm mostly just following the orders of my boss who suggested I come here to learn a bit more about what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and how it affects what he pays me to do. I know next to nothing about this, save for a few phrases like keywords, PR, IBL, etc., so address me as you would a 10 year old (because I love hearing how much I've grown this year! =D).

I would like to know where I should start my learning process. Please, feel free to give me advice and leave nice messages about how wonderful my grammar is. I look forward to meeting everyone and learning how to beat the Googles! (or Bing or Yahoo!. Whatever.)

You ever notice what happens to popular sites? How other websites link to them? How people talk about them on Facebook and Twitter? People submit them to Digg and Reddit?

Basically, (black hat) SEO is learning how to fake all of these things to get your site to show up in the search engines, after which they will become more popular on their own from the quality content.

Lol Thank you for the advice, but I get to see him every year at the family reunion. I would prefer to keep things friendly and just get better at what I do, but we'll see if I can even do that much. :)

Thank you for the warm welcome. ^_^

P.S. I won't give his name but he can reply if he feels it's necessary. I'm no fun, I know.

Thank you, that is very helpful. Now, what are the best ways to go about this, in your opinion? I know you need links but where should I link from? Should I link to my links so the links are... linkier? And what thread should these newbie questions be in? =P
