So my garage door broke. I googled to find someone to fix it.

Google gave me no local results for the search, I tried a few different variations. Is this a result of people not submitting their business to google, or low search volume?

Probably low search volume, Garage door fitters is not really 'a business' as such! Not like searching for a plumber, electrician, etc....

It's interesting because there are businesses that do nothing but garage doors, the margins must be pretty big because the search volume makes it look like no one could make a living doing it.

Hmmmm... I have just done a search for 'garage door repair' and it did bring up local listings, so you are right, it's a pretty big business!! Have you done other searches? maybe it's your google settings!

I have some good keywords with 1000+ searches in that niche with about.... 0 competition. I'm not currently targeting that niche right now, but I will be throwing some cash into it very soon. ;)

Do you plan on monetizing by selling the leads, or do you plan to lease the site, or go into the garage door business? I went ahead and pulled ome volume numbers and "garage doors {my major city}" gets 40 searches a month within the geographic area. Google is getting $17 a click here.

This happens for a number of reasons that I am aware of including 1) few search queries for that term, which often results in a one box 2) Google is mucking around with things...in some very competitive legal niches, you won't find local listings from time to time 3) Your term just simply doesn't trigger local, regardless of anything else.

I've worked a bit in the niche, and don't remember ever seeing a case where, for a typical term, it didn't trigger local.

Such is Google.

I can able to see few listing with my Google search. It might be your settings or something else???

Im getting results in google search.like ppl said must be your settings

Ye it is not really a direct business that google will relate businesses with. There probably isn't someone that is just a garage door fitter, they are probably under a different trade and also do that as well as a side service.
