No backlinks but first on google?

I've seen sites with 0 backlinks or a very low number of backlinks, but they rank very high on google. In particular, I've noticed that by using youtube, facebook, yahoo answers or any high authority site, you can get a top position on google without building backlinks. An example is:

Keyword: Free Riot Points
There's a youtube video in first spot with no backlinks...

It does have a lot of views though, but I have seen other videos with about 7k views ranked high too. Also some questions posted on yahoo answers also ranks incredibly high. Anyone have any idea how they are doing this?

While backlinks remain an important factor for the ranking of web pages, it is not the only factor. Videos that you see with a lot of views are ranked high because they are relevant to the query and because they have been viewed a lot. Links with high click through rates in SERP's tend to get favored over those that people don't seem to find that exciting (based on clicks).

There is evidence that Google is trying to distance itself from backlinking as a strong factor for the relevance of a web page. This signal can easily be manipulated. Google's launch of the Google plus social network and initiatives like the Google Authorship program and the Knowledge graph are signs that the search provider is trying harder to link content they know is good to people who are looking for good content.

Youtube gives an authority to it's every video, of course it can be ranked easily.

You may not see the backlinks, they may not be indexed yet.

Using social networking helps a lot to rank nowadays.

YT videos are ranking by views, likes / dislikes, comments and discussions in general.
 
I've had sites before that i got to top place in google, and the best reason i could find was that viewers engaged with the site, they stayed on it, they found it useful. Google defiantly uses the time that someone is on a site to help rank them. (among an ever increasing number of factors)
 
They are in first position because of very high quality of content and visitor.
Also by using tire linking you can rank a website with small amount of links directed to it.
 
The future of getting traffic is going to be much more site quality, uniqueness, and traffic based. Backlinks are becoming more like an advanced version of pinging. It gets initial attention, but viewership is far more important.
 
I don't think its the views getting it in top position. I think it has to do with:
1. The amount of times the video is embedded.
2. The amount of times that people use it on sites like infinitelooper or tubeloop
3. The amount of times the video is uploaded to different media sites?

Is there any free programs that allows you to do this?

did you check if those have backlinks?
what tool did you use?
 
sometimes its new websites popping up on top of the searches then disappearing within 2-6 weeks.

then most probably well on page optimization? I have a site like that, which is good onsite and not much backlinks. I am getting viral with the site and that got me to the first place within 1-2 months or so, have been there for about a month now
 
perfectly possible to rank without backlinks infact I cant even remember the last time I concerned myself with backlinks to get onto the first page for relevant keywords
 
I have a ecommerce site got hit in April and all I been doing is adding content and its coming back some now... I been working my long tail keywords...
 
It's an interesting study case. I think you should see if it will remain to be in page 1 for like 3 months, then you'll know you're doing an effective thing for page 1 ranking.
 
It is very interesting i'm also eagerly waiting for the good answer.
 
It also depends on competition in that niche.
I saw websites that were top 1 without any backlinks. Seriously. Only on-page factors, perfect keywords and content, no social media. But it's rare in competitive niches.
