Nicotine improves brain performance PLEASE READ!!!

Maybe nicotine itself does, but inhaling it through a cigarette definately doesn't when combined with decreased lung capacity from all the shit you get in your body from a smoke. I'm quite a heavy smoker and I know if I haven't had a smoke for a couple of hours I may be cranky but my mind is sharper than a thistle .

Side effects

Health effects of nicotine

Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor; it constricts arteries, making it harder for the heart to pump blood through the body. Repeated nicotine exposure contributes to accelerated coronary artery disease, acute cardiac ischemic events, and hypertension Additionally, studies have shown that nicotine exposure contributes to stroke, peptic ulcer disease, and esophageal reflux. Further, nicotine may cause wounds to heal more slowly and may be associated with reproductive toxicity. Moreover, nicotine can cause the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood.

Nicotine replacement therapies, such as nicotine gum, that were used for long periods of time may be associated with an increased risk of contracting oral cancer among people who have a specific gene mutation in their mouth, according to a study done at University of London.

Muscle control

Two unpleasant symptoms which affect some new users, and existing users who make excessive use of nicotine gum, are hiccups and a perceived constriction of the throat muscles, as accidental swallowing of saliva containing high amounts of nicotine may cause irritation.

Gum disease

Prolonged nicotine chewing gum use may also cause gum disease. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, including those of the gums, which has led to speculation that long-term use of nicotine gum may contribute to risk for gum disease. However, one clinical study has found no connection between 15 weeks of nicotine gum use and oral health.

Birth defects

Women who use nicotine gum and patches during the early stages of pregnancy face an increased risk of having babies with birth defects according to a 2006 study that looked at about 77,000 pregnant women in Denmark. The study found that women who used nicotine-replacement therapy in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy had a 60 percent greater risk of having babies with birth defects than women who did not smoke.

Smoke it or chew it, it is still harmful.

WORD! If you've ever seen a thirty year old die from lung cancer, then you'll know this is a fucking ridiculous thing to be putting out their. Not your fault OP, im just fucked off at the dickhead who came up with this BS. I'm a smoker myself, and in no way does it improve my mental capabilities, if anything it decreases them significantly when I'm trying to work and all I can think about is going for a smoke.

I smoked for 10 years (started when I was 12). And I smoked a lot, always with a lit cigarette whenever possible, which was pretty much everywhere when not in class so I think I was addicted enough to be able to give you the same quick tip that helped me: cravings only last seconds, rarely a whole minute. When you know this you will see that you don't actually think about smoking all the time. It only looks like that :)

So if you are trying to quit, count to 30 or something every time and the need to smoke, chew, sniff will pass. You will have 10 or maybe 20 such episodes / day. It grasps you hard but then let's you off just as fast.

If you are not trying to quit, remember this simple stuff for whenever.

Some of the other yada-yadas like ebooks, replacements, hypnosis etc. probably work too but I found going cold turkey was pretty easy with the exception of the described torturous 30-second-episodes.

Well hell...if you live in a big city with a lot of cars etc, chances are you're already inhaling 1 or 2 packs worth of shit anyways.
