Nick Flame's "Why so serious?" backlink trick...

Please stop testing this out on here, go to other forums and test it. It obviously works, Nick proved that in the first post. The thread isn't titled 'Everyone gets a free smiley backlink of their choice' , don't make us have to give out infractions.

comment on hundreds of forums and leave a smile. YAHOO and MSN will love you.

I have done it in the past but since I got zero to none conversions from Yahoo I stopped

A trick to be sure, but is it really effective?
Most importantly, there is no anchor text, which means you would need a ton of juice.
On top of that...

When you think about it, how much PR does an average forum page have?
a.) You would have to find a forum where they don't have sigs or outgoing links so that you could get the most juice.
b.) The forum would have to be very old and established with lots of visitors but very few posters. The reason being that page 43 of that hot thread isn't going to rank the same as page 1.

For example BHW has a page rank of 3, while this thread on the forum has a PR of 0.

If you have a trick to automatically do this to hundreds of websites, then get to making some money. However, I have never heard of such a program that will automatically sign you up for the relevant forums, and then create completely unique relevant content with a smiley link added.

Lets say you spend 5 minutes a day getting a few links for your site. Alternatively, you could write an article in 5 minutes and post it to your site, which would be linkbait and build your site long term.

Repeat this process on various sites, and you will eventually start bringing in some real money.

I do not know why everyone is looking for the silver bullet. It is like the fable of the turtle and the hare. If people spent their time on churning out content instead of hopping around, they would probably be rich.

BH works but only for the elite of the elite, who know tricks months, sometimes years, in advance of the average BH'er.

I am not denying that this will not work, what I am saying is that there are far more efficient uses of your time.

This is pretty old. I saw this posted on jonathan volks blog a while ago.

He also mentioned that you could sign up for high PR forums and add a link to your site on your profile.. and then just ping your profile page. Just don't add that link when you sign up.. wait a few days and then add the link.

You can find loads of forums here: big-boards.com

EDIT: Uhm oh, and i think it's better to use a 1x1 transparent pixel instead of a smiley in your sig line. Moderators will never suspect anytyhing. :)

Wow, this is great stuff. Can somebody post the code for 1x1 transparent pixel? I don't even know what the hell that is :p

i just posted up a small php /curl script in the tools section that auto posts to vbulltein forums, it could be easily modifed to post to other forums also

this is just something different, the idea is to maybe sign up to forums only that allow links in sigs

then you could use something like the tool i posted in a localhost setup just refreshing every 30 seconds or so posting various comments to already posted threads

or if you have sites that have ok traffic, you could even frame this kind of tool on the front page of you site or inside it in a 1 pixel frame

therefore as users hit one of your sites there automaicly postibg follow up threads to already posted threads in various forums

then once you have 50 or 500 or whatever posts in a forum, simply disable the account from your autoposter and go into the cp and add in your sig link

this whould work well if your posting to newer threads and you great a response in on the first page

if you spend a bunch of time on this method you could sign up for a hole bunch of accounts across various forums and have one forum thread posted after another by every user who hits one of your sites, if you have this kind of script hidden no one whould really reliase whats going on either

Ok i did it but how would you hide a youtube video url behind a smiley without the video displaying?

Camsco, you wouldn't try that, it wouldn't work very well.

I see the group needs to stop the hotlinking.

This is not to build up hits on a youtube vid, but build back links to other sites, that could, possibly, embed a youtube page.

I'd be interested in hiring someone to do this for me if anyone is willing. PM me if interested with quotes and details. Thanks.

Wow thanks for the tip this is truly a good idea.

I've used this trick with Flickr to decent effect. :)

Works pretty well. I put up a new site, posted some of my backlinks in a related niche forum and made a wordpress post, no real seo just a quick post and with in 8 minutes google had indexed the page and I was at the top of page 2 for a two word search query.

Thanks Nick!
