Short background - I started a company on the side and my niche keyword volumes are quite low. The largest in volume being 3,600 for a keyword that doesn't quite fit into what I do. The majority of them have a stated volume (from SEMrush) of about 10 - 480. Some of them I'm ranking at number 1 for GMB. Others I'm in the 60's and most of them I don't rank for yet. I have no organic traffic, but I have business locally from referrals. I offer a product outside of my usual service area via an online platform since COVID-19 provided me with time to make a product that could forego face-to-face dealings with my customers. I can get about 1.5% CTR through google ads but no organic hits at all since I've been working on the website and SEO for several months now.

Any suggestions on how to approach low volume keywords for almost my entire niche? Google Ads aren't cheap per click imo, ($3) and are draining my advertising budget. I feel I could drop ads for a few weeks and focus on some blackhat style SEO for rankings so I don't have to pop up in ads.

I love what I do for work, just want my online presence and product to gain some traction outside of my local area so that I can get some more income or at least exposure of that product.

3600 isn't really low volume keyword. Neither is 480. True low volume would be around 10.

The thing with search volume is, that it's measured in exact matches. If your keyword is "best blue widgets" and if you did your homework, you will eventually start ranking for variations of the keyword and for secondary keywords as well.

So main keyword with search volume of 100 might cumulatively have even 1000 searches a month. And that's not really low.

Also, your niche seems to be relatively competitive. Purely judging by the cost you pay in adwords. That means two things.

- It will be pain to rank.
- Even low traffic keywords can bring in very nicely targeted and well paying traffic.

First thing what I would do would be to gather a complete list of all the keywords in your niche. At least the main ones that you will use as your primary keywords for your articles. If your niche is high paying, then anything with 10+ search volume will do.

Then, write keyword rich articles about those keywords. Do proper research, add plenty of secondary keywords without overdoing it. Interlink the articles properly.

Let them age a bit. In half a year, you should be getting at least somewhere by no link building at all. That is, if you did your onsite SEO properly.

However the biggest problem here most likely will be the high competition. And in that case you might never rank without offsite SEO and proper backlink campaign. And that might be pretty expensive eventually.

Also, after checking your website which you sent me via PM, your onsite SEO is very bad.

Your articles are super short. Some only couple hundred words long. Your article structuring is non existent. No h2 3 4 tags, just wall of text. Also, the contrast is killing my eyes.

There's no interlinking, no clear main keyword, no clear secondaries.

Just writing random articles around a certain topic won't get you anywhere at all.

If there are many low volume and low competition keywords, you can start to target all of them. You will get visits from the large number of pages.

You can also launch parasites to rank easily for low-competition keywords.
