Hi all,

I need help from seo experts please.

Here my case :

I have 2 ideas of niche. Bot are on different topics, but both are useful for webmasters.

My question : should I make one website per theme (so 2 websites), or one website ?
Like : domain.com/topic1 + domain.com/topic2 VS topic1.com + topic2.com

Thing is I don't care to pay 2 domain and host, but to grow 1 website is faster to grow 2 websites. The only positive point I see to create 2 websites is that i'll put the theme name in the domain name.

Thanks for any hints

It's probably a matter of choice. In your case, I'd personally go with one silo'd niche authority site.

If the 2 niche ideas of closely related then one site only is what I would do. As you said it takes much more effort to grow 2 sites, and with 1 site some of your work for one niche will carry over to the second niche.

You don't need to silo anything. Just make 1 site and make use of Categories. That's what they're there for.

I agree.

And with wordpress multisite (network), it's really quick to setup 2 subdomain with a different theme.

Finaly, the question is more : how important (in mind of the users) is the domain name ?
I'll personally click more on a website topic1.com VS domamin.com/topic1 , because i would say the domain topic1.com will talk only about that, so i'll find more useful informations. But it's only me.

I for one would go with 2 sites. Sites that are strictly about one niche tend to rank better than multiniche sites. Of course it depends on how closely related those two topics are. If it's something totally different like cats and cars, then definitely 2 sites. If it's cats and dogs, then go with one site.

If the niches are different, then just host them on the same shared hosting package.

Hosting cost is not really a problem. If i'm not able to invest 20$/month for a decent hosting, i wouldn't lost my time to make a website that'll stuck in the 20th page in google ;)

Well if you can afford that, then do not lose your time with scraped domains and go to the auctions. $100-$200 per domain should not be a problem for you, plus, you will save money on content and hosting in the long run.

Nargil, when you say save on content, do you mean because they are still indexed you can reuse the indexed content

I don't like rebuilding, I mean overall. Let's say (made up numbers). 1 bigger domain equals 5 scraped domains when it comes to power. Let's say you post 30 articles per domain. That's 30 vs 150 articles.

Because both are different niche then you should go with two websites.

I see. Well, i'll need many time/money to grow 2 websites, that's why I would prefer only one website

Well it won't be that much cheaper to rank 2 niches on the same site. Start with one niche and one site and once that starts to make money, scale up. You don't want to get stuck on 2nd page with no budget.
