Niche Porn Site... Is it worth it?

So I'm into some pretty out there Sexual Stuff. I've often thought about starting a porn site surrounding it. It would be involving BDSM and other Niche things. I've just started playing with some one who is interested in Photography and taking pictures of the play sessions he takes part in. So I would be the model for the site and he would be the one taking the pictures and doing the things to me.

We would have a forum where members are able to post suggestions and what they would like to see and then we would create the photos. I'm not sure about Video but it's possible at some point we could offer video as well.

I'm a Web Developer and Programmer so I would handle creating the whole site, marketing the site, forum moderation, ect. So pretty much it would be the Cost of the Domain Name, webhosting, and Advertising that we would have to worry about... So comes my question. Would it really be worth it all? Thanks!

If the quality would inspire a subscription, you could still make some real coin on porn.

If I were going that road, I'd make some niche tube sites (using other's videos) and use them to advertise my own subscription site.

Only you can answer that question. Running a site w/forum takes lots of time and work. It just sounds like another "fetlife" type site. The question you should probably be asking is, "What can my site provide that all the other POPULAR fetish sites don't?"
 
I'm a guy into CBT, Needle Play, ElectroSex, and other things like that. I'm straight so there wouldn't be to much guy on guy action unless that's what people really wanted...
 
Not too knowledgeable in the adult niche but as far as profitability goes, I'd see how many existing competitors are surrounding it and if none, then do some keyword research to see what the demand is.

Also, since you're competing against the free stuff, make sure it's high quality when it comes to the photos and videos. I'd also ensure that your identity is well concealed if you want to keep this stuff private so make sure your domain has good WhoIs protection, that your PayPal doesn't say your name and so forth.
 
Niche sites can perform really well actually. The adult industry as a whole has been moving towards micro niche stuff. With so much adult content on the web, people are looking for unique and very exotic stuff. People get tired of the same old same old.

A lot of porn sites have their own brand as an individual even if the do videos for the big adult firms, so if you target your market correctly you can make a killing. A few thousand per month would be on the low side if you promote it right you could easily do over $10K/month.

Especially if you take feedback from users, that's a rising trend. Like some porn stars are auctioning their under garments after shows and what not or private sessions where the person can call in.

In a niche market where people feel sky and stuff like BDSM I'm sure something like that would sell pretty well.

You can further expand your revenue by licensing your content, I'm pretty sure PornHub accepts 3rd party submissions on a revenue share basis.

One way you could build a loyal fan base is offering exclusive photo sets for paid members only. Show the censored teaser photos for free members, I'm sure a certain % will get all riled up eventually and cave into paying for the full high res images.

If you really enjoy the lifestyle, this venture may make it even more fun for you. Ha! You could even sell photos on stock photog sites. The ones they have there now are crappy and generic looking. Anyway, happy decision-making.

Well in doing research I did read that Gay Sites are more profitable at the moment because there are plenty of options for Straight Porn... Maybe that's where he was coming from.

Or... During the original post, you said that you were a model. Whenever posts like this come up, people are interested in so called 'proof' for 'examination' on how to 'monetize'.
 
Well me and my Play partner have decided to go ahead and do this. We will be using my self as the base model and then trying to get others involved once we launch the site. Still alot to discuss and we will be doing a few shoots before we launch the site so we have some content to add.

We are open for suggestions though! Both for scenes and for any porn site management tips and tricks you guys might have.
 
Haven't started organizing it to that point yet. He's going out of state until the 17th and when he gets back we will get together for another play session and Photo Shoot and discuss the site.
 
ill tell you the truth that there is always going to be money in porn. so yes its worth it no matter who tells you no.
 
I think some Niche's like that can be profitable from I.E. Amazon Affiliate Sales - Hardcore sex toys.

If I were to do it, I would push strongly on an e-mail/subscription list and push product/monthly memberships.

In India porn site is banned, so it's not possible to worth in INDIA
