I'm a relatively new internet marketer. I am familiar with using the keyword planner tool by Google. But I still can't figure out and gauge the competition in a chosen niche. Are there any competition analysis tools around on the internet which are free? I've looked around on youtube, but most of the software for gauging competition are not free. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe this thread can be a hot button and turn into an "niche idea" thread

You can also manually look at the top 10 and use opensiteexplorer or majesticseo to check out their backlink profile. The keyword revealer tool has a competition button you can use after you lookup your KW and will show the competition as well as the trend.

Oh Fats my dear, take a look at longtailpro. You can see the top 10 search results for any keyphrase and their metrics so you know how your site will stack up.
