OK... it gets weirder.... If you search for "lego star wars yoda's starfighter" right around result 60 I see this result:



I thought the rule was that unicode emojis would only appear if you searched for them. This is a clear example of that not being the case. (even though it didn't rank well)

Google is probably split testing support. They are constantly running tests. I probably wouldn't create a marketing plan around this until you can confirm consistent support. We all remember video thumbnails in the regular SERPs and authorship. Good find though!

Ok... I have an experiment site up and running... just waiting for google to revisit and we'll see if I can make it work at the top of page one for a high competition search term. Just experimenting.
