Nice domain expires today. How to get?

A domain has expired today and I don think the person is going to renew it. What is the best way to go about grabbing it. I dont think none else wants the domain either.. How long will I have to wait to grab it even thou it expired today? i tried to register it yesterday night and today but its saying its taken still..

expires today or comes out of holding today?
there is a holding period even after the domain expires.
 
yea it went out of expiration not holding today. How do I backorder? Who is best to backorder with?
 
My experience albeit limited with going for expired domains is that they are snagged by a bot before you'll ever have a chance. What is the name of that spider or bot that does this? Happened to a domain I really needed some years back and I wound up paying almost $3 grand for it coz I couldn't get it even with a back order.
