NewsMedia site: 304 vs QDF

Hi there!

So this is a post looking for experiences and thoughts about QDF vs 304.

I'm getting you into context. I work as an SEO (a rookie one) in a newsmedia site quite huge 60k+ url.
So I'm struggling to get crawled and indexed the super-fresh news we launch by the time we launch it, not 3 hours later when it's not fresh anymore (newsmedia is THAT cruel)
So, even though I'm familiar with QDF and we try to do everything we can to get indexed our fresh news it's been hard. And to be fair, competitors are tough.
So, it crossed my mind: ok, what if I put a 304 to news which haven't been updated for 6+ months, crawlers are not going to waste time on those news and will concentrate on crawling (and indexing for god's sake) the super-fresh ones.
but there's a BUT, John Mueller and other G squad members are always talking about the importance of QDF, and by doing that 304 thing I'll be telling G: Hey! More than half of my site is not worth crawling because it's not updated.

What do you think guys? do you use 304? know anyone who uses it? QDF is a myth? Am I overthinking?

it all google fault time in updating is long no one can really resolve it .

try asking google it a grate subject .

are you using the correct sitemap to get indexed properly?

a lot of problams come down to wp not setup correctly.

have you got meta tags correctly set up to re visits page to update .

1 Yes! sitemaps are working fine
2 with wp you mean WordPress? We have our own CMS not WP.
3 which meta tags do you mean? "revisit-after"? As I know it has no value anymore.

Anyways, what are your thougths about the QDF?
