I wanted to write about a subject that I never saw even mentioned here but very powerful, use by big brands generally because you must spend time knowing about the trends going on and as marketer who generally are solopreneurs, it requires to take a step back and it can be quite difficult because we are always in the execution all the time and the testing of different things...

BUT, this concept requires to be at the right moment and at the right time. It can boost your brand awareness like nothing else if done correctly and with good measures. the 2 factors are that you must be well aware about your brand's strength and weaknesses and also how you can capitalise on what's going on in the world.

Using hashtags, tweets about very recent news, publishing a video or ad related to something going on, etc... Newsjacking is the use of a marketing channel that will ride on the trend or news, using the relation that your brand could have with the news and become viral like crazy before the news fades or dies...

If we think about the concept a little bit more, we can see that the message can be very impactful and in an instant your brand can gain a very very strong momentum...AND NATURAL BACKLINKS!

Here is a general graph so you can understand the concept better :

Examples of perfect Newsjacking :

During the 2013 superbowl blackout, OREO crushed it! Their brand became top of mind again with an excellent communication and a timing that was just perfect.

Remember when everyone complained that their smartphones breaked? Kitkat made a genius tweet go viral...

The 10 years old challenge on IG, Lego made a very good facebook post, making fun of their brand because even if the structure of the legos didn't change, you can use it in an infinite number of ways.

I will finish this thread on this. In this age, and especially here, people fall for buying views, comments etc... But you cannot buy virality and make an impact, you have to think about how you can use creativity with your brand in order to acquire new customers and also to be remembered. Newsjacking is a concept that big brands use, because it works and if you do it the right way, the virality will give you a big momentum. No fake views, no fake tweets, only genuine marketing!

Hope you liked it :)

Beautiful op. love reading marketing related content, so many gems in just looking at what the big dogs are doing.

Yes, you can easily pick up juicy topics from buzzfeed, with a little filtering and idea twisting.

The technique described here is called real time marketing. Anyone who has worked in marketing will know what it is.

Yes but many people here are not marketing experts and trying to figure out marketing can be quite challenging, so I wanted to give this straight to the point strategy for people to understand the power of it.

Any services here selling this? I would pay for it, but dont' have time to do it myself.

social media something probably? anyone managing sm can offer it

Thanks, probably a good way to produce content at a lower price point. My niche is pretty good for this and it would create some local content, which is a bonus.

I am a bit surprised that so few people here know about it. But it's probably normal, since most of the stuff here is about SEO, PBN rather than marketing as a whole. I argued with someone one day that SEO is part of the marketing and the other part said marketing has as much to do with SEO as programming or something like that.

An excellent idea tbh and now waiting for someone to hack it and make a bst here, I’m to lazy to work on it but I’m sure it’s a bst worthy idea provided he accepts one client per one trend

Before learning marketing fundamentals, I didn't hear about it. Here you find a lot of things about SEO but not about marketing in general. Which is by far as important to be honest

It's a good idea to learn marketing, or at least fundamentals. It may turn out you will like the creative part of the marketing work and manage to generate some good income.

There are a lot of jobs in this field. If you hate traditional 9-5, this way of doing 9-5 might be the way you want to go. Internet marketing experts are in high demand.

Newsjacking isn't a new concept at BHW. There are a lot of posts about using trends in all sorts of markets. But it isn't as popular a topic as indexing, backlinking etc. But yeah, it's all about watching for trends (or news) and riding the wave for as long as it lasts. Doing YouTube videos is still a great way to break into a trend and grab some of the traffic...as are press releases, Facebook posts etc. But it is very time consuming...and you have to be at the right place at the right time as your image kind of shows.
