I wanted to start learning whitehat seo but i have no clue where to start. i was interested in the Search Engine Marketing Kit 2.0 by Sitepoint but no one seems to have it. Can anyone point me to a very good alternative (if not better)?

also, i'm still looking for the SEM Kit. If you have it, please share!

Do you know that SEM has everything that you can find here on BHW :D??Look through various threads dude, i am sure you will not want any such Ebook :)

yeah start reading ebooks...
i m sure u will find a lot of ebooks abt WH SEO

To point you to the right direction, read about:

1. Content Optimization
2. Backlinks

That should be a good start. I would also say seo is 10% web page optimazation an 90% link building.

i'm also looking into making a business out of sem so any places to look into for that?

I apologize but SEM has a lot of definition for me. Which one are you referring to?

You should at least learn the business before trying to run the business. You just opened up with not knowing anything about SEO, and then you state you want to run a SEM business?

Use the search feature here and get to work.

yes i know that i dont know anything about search engine marketing. that's why i'm looking for ebooks.

Here's what I'd recommend to get started:

1. Sign up with a place like Clickbank so you have some way to make money. Find a product you'd like to try out.
2. Use Google Keyword Tool to find a keyword you'd like to target.
3. Sign up with a cheap hosting service (hostmonster.com is good) and register a domain with the keyword in it.
4. Learn how to configure a Wordpress blog (an easy way to build pages).
5. Create a one-page blog touting a product you want to sell from ClickBank (with your hoplink on the page). This is your "money page". Be sure to use the keyword in the title and in an initial H1 tag on the page. Don't spam the page with your keyword.
6. Go create a new "blog" on vox.com and post a DIFFERENT page of content about the product you are promoting on your money page. Same as before, use the keyword a few times in the body of the page.
7. Be sure to include a link on this vox.com page to your money page. Use the keyword you want to focus on in the vox.com blog name and in the anchor text of the link to your money page.
8. Go to pingler.com and ping both your money page and the vox.com page.
9. Generate some high quality backlinks to both pages (Angela's list is good).
10. Generate a SLEW of backlinks to the vox page (social bookmarking is good for this).

Be sure to turn on some analytics so you can watch the traffic on your money page.

You should see Googlebot come by within a day.

The vox.com page should be indexed within a few hours to a day or two (using the site: command in Google to see).

Your money page should be initially indexed in a few days to a couple of weeks (again, use the site: command to watch for it).

Your money page will bounce around in its rankings for a while before settling in.

I may get slammed by some folks in this forum, but the above will introduce you to a whole mess of different areas - virtually all of which can be "drilled into" once you get the first one done.

Hope this helps!

I'd suggest doing the 30 Day Challenge. It covers a lot of the basics that will help you create your own ideas and profit rather than follow others "methods".

The basic idea of the challenge can be seen in the video at: www.thirtydaychallenge.com

You do not need to enter your email, just after watching that go to:
www.thirtydaychallenge.com/training/

Also avoid paying for ANYTHING while you're in the learning process. All you need to know to get started is available free. Once you've learned the basics you'll know what is worthy of your money and what isn't.

I agree, Thirty day challenge is a great way for newbies to learn the basics (and not so basics) of internet marketing, I only suggest that you follow the entire course.

Did anyone find the search engine marketing kit?
