Newbie- question about expiring domains

Hi, i want to buy some pageranked and aged domains, but I need to know whether pagerank would remain high, if I bought a domain or it will drop down with Google updates ? What should I do after buying such domains- should I use existed pages and create content for them?

The strength of the domain should be measured by its existing backlinks. If the backlinks are strong than it will maintain the PR. Whether or not you recreate the pages has little to do with the PR but it might help Google to think it is the same site.

thank you I have seen lots of high PR expiring domains with no or very few backlinks, so it seems to me there is no correlation between amount of backlinks and PR
 
If it has "no or very few backlinks" it is a fake and will not keep its PR. Good luck.
 
I agree totally with what LBrown says. It's all about checking the incoming links. No decent high PR d0f0ll0w incoming backlinks, no real PR for your domain. I've been picking up some decent dropped domains these past few months and had some nice results in the PR update last month with 90% of the dropped domains I bought (I'm hoping the other 10% will click in on next update now I've 301'd some inner pages to the main domain). I use a different strategy, but it leads to the same result.

It's well worth you looking at picking up some expired domains yourself OP, for the price of a normal registration. Sure, it may take longer, but it's worthwhile as it's guaranteed that what you see is what you get. My personal blog networks looking quite nice at the mo, and feeding in some decent authority and PR to my main sites.

It's difficult getting a proper backlink result without a paid service. I use seomoz's open site explorer. Shazilrocks sells monthly subscriptions here for $10 per month, which will give you the incoming links, the Moztrust and Mozrank. The last 2 aren't hugely important but make a nice addition. Then look at getting yourself a cheap whois.domaintools.com subscription and check the history of the domain too. Lots of drops in the domain can sometimes mean its been used for spamming purposes, and possibly penalised, which may affect your site if you decide to use the domains for your own network.
 
As LBrown mentioned, fake PR is quite an issue. In the aftermarket, you will find a LOT of names with fake PR. That really is your first hurdle - if aged names with decent PR is a goal, eliminating those with fake PR is critical. Once you get names with a real PR, replicating the site (look in web archive to see how a site used to appear and what it was all about) or at least keeping its new content in the same niche helps a lot. As an example, I once picked up a name from godaddy auctions' $5 bin, spun up a site about the same topic, and its PR and performance actually improved in just a few months.
 
I recommend expireddomains (dot) net for buying domain, where you can sort things as per your requirements like (removing fake PR, setting backlinks greater than 500, 1k, 20k as you wish, etc..)

Follow the steps for buying expired domains :

Step 1 :- check its domain age, backlinks, then also make sure whether the domain you chosen got real Page rank or fake by using following PR checker tools

seomastering (dot) com
cekpr (dot) com
rankchecker (dot) com

Step 2 : Google it the domain you chosen, site:yourdomain.com to make sure whether the previous domain owner scammed or anything

Step 3 : According to the recent updates on EMD domains, it will be more risk. So avoid buying Exact match domains

so would it be a bad idea to visit webarchive, copy its content and just restore its pages ? would I get penalised by Google duplicate content penalty ?

Don't copy the previous used content from webarchive - it will open the door to legal issues down the road. Just because the content isn't currently "in play" doesn't mean it's not copyrighted.

Better to just view the previous content and use it as a model, scope around the same keywords.

I have also heard a theory saying that EXPIRED domains lost all their ranks, whereas EXPIRING do not. Is it truth or not ?
 
That's not true all the time, If you buy expired domains with backlinks & several criteria's which explained in above posts, then nothing to worry about PR drops.

P.S : I have many PR domains over 2+ years, All their PR remains unchanged, not dropped either and looks legit still

Its really bad idea.. I guess those articles will be duplicate if you used again, Google will penalize those kind of websites. But not sure, since i haven't tried / experienced in practical with these kind of local methods... lol :) better try with one of your domain and PM me what happened - either penalized or ranked 1st page on Google :)

Expired domain names do not lose their PR. As previously stated, it is all based on backlinks. I would not advise getting these from forums like digitalpoint where people claim selling PR6 for $50. Register at expireddomains.net and you will have options to sort out expired auctions (min PR, no fake PR, min backlinks..)

You may also be interested in visiting our BST or website where we list our High PR domain auctions, we have sold +40 so far.
