Hello everybody, I'm learning a lot on BHW about Seo and CPA, now I want to apply these informations.
My question is regarding how to choose the right niche, using the Google Adwords Keyword tool.
First, the column competition is only regarding PPC game, right?
I mean, if i dont want to use ppc at the moment, could I forget this column?
Second, is there a way to understand if it's a good idea to try to use a keyword with a certain amount of indexed page?
I mean, if I have a 3-words keyword with a 1million of indexed page, and about 400k of pages if use the brachet, is this a lost war?
Is there a 'magic' number? I mean: do it if you have less than XX...don't do it if you have more than yy pages... and so on.
I'd like to build a website about insurance, but I'm new on this game, and there're a lot of shark :D
Hope to explain my thoughts in a right way.

If you want to know your exact competition, search that keyword in google and see how many other sites come up.

I would suggest you pick something besides insurance, as the competition is very high and for someone just starting out, you will quickly give up from seeing no results.

If you search for your keyword phrase with the inurl: or intitle: operators that should show you how many pages are optimizing for the phrase.

Thank you guys for your replies :)
I think that the insurance niche is too hard... I'll find some products from amazon or Clickbank...
I've just tried some child toys but there are too many competitors :)..

How many competing pages really does not matter. What matters is if you can get on the first page or not. If you can not then it is not worth doing if you can then it is.

Take a look at the sites in the bottom half of the first page. Can you beat them? If so then how many other sites there are does matter at all. If you can not then it does not matter if there are only 30 competing pages.

You will have to check several things... inurl, intitle will tell you how many of pages or sites are optimized for that keyword... roughly result with quotes tells you exact competition...

You need to find such keyword which got less competition and good search volume (exact only)... There is no magic line, you have to decide what is best for you and where you can rank...

400k exact results or 1 mil broad results are good enough and you can target... I usually go for even tougher competition but with good search results... You have to decide whether you can break into top 10 or not and how much effort needed for it...
You also need to look for results coming into top 10... More authority sites in top 10 will make your job tougher then usual...

>>bizroot Really Could I target 1M or 400K keywords? Wow!!
And yes, I think that if the first 9 results are sites like Am4z0n o 3g4y or similar... mmmm no way! I wont win!! :)
I'm trying to understand what the italian parameters are.. I mean, there're only about 20M of Italian People on Internet, so I think that the limit about a particular keyword is different for an English keyword.
If an English keyword has a limit of 1M of pages, the Italian limit could be... 63k? (there're about 1 billion of people that can read/write English and only 60 million of people that can write/read Italian; the rapport is 1/16).

LOL yaa you could go... Usually most of my niches are in 4-5 mil range, some even 20+ mil range... I have outranked wikipedia, amazon so many times that I am sure it can be done again... Few times I have even outranked original company whose product I was promoting... So everything is possible... You have to decide what you want to do...

_____ Competition = ______ Time = ______ Money

Now your choice fill blank spaces with less or more and you got picture... :)
