[Newbie] Niche research getting me down

So I've known about some of this stuff for a couple of years. I tried bum marketing a while back and, as far as SEO goes, I was successful; I made it to #4 on google without even trying that much, never updated the blog and just wrote articles pointing to them. I almost never make any sales, but the SEO worked even though it was half-assed.

Now I'm trying in another niche, same basic method. The thing is, every time I look for keywords to write SEO articles in, they always look good until I look at the sites the keyword is ranking for.

Using the adwords keyword tool, this keyword (short tail, two words total) has very low competition, very low numbers for intitle: and inurl: and not so many exact searches (about 44,000). Normally I'd say I could rank pretty high with that.

But the problem is that my competition is made up of sites like amaz0n, 0verstock, new3gg, c1sco, etc. and it just looks really bad for me.

Can I still rank above them for that keyword without quotes in google? even with bum marketing? just trying to rank a squidoo lens with article marketing and other backlinking methods, I don't know if this would work out.

As far as actually making sales goes, I think that's for another day. I'm still pretty new at all this

Low adsense competition = bad. Low intitle, inurl, No of Search results mean nothing.

When looking at competition with googles keyword tool, you will want HIGH competition because this is just an indicator of how many companies are competing on ADSENSE for that term, not in google serps. So the higher the adsense competition, the better because you can see there is actually money in the market because people want to invest.

Now to see if the keyword has a high seo competition, look at the page backlinks of the top 10 (not the domain backlinks). If they are low, your chances are high to outrank them relatively easy. Now, if the top 10's onpage seo is not optimized for the kw you are looking at - meaning kw is not in title, h1, text, url, your chances get even better.

There are some more hints that tell you that a kw is easy - i.e. websites in top 10 ranking without many Backlinks. If they can do it, why shouldn't you? That means that the competition, despite i.e. high page backlinks, is weak for that term.

You could take this approach even further by looking at the page links. Do they have the kw in their anchor texts(with SEO Spyglass)? But this step takes even more time and may be overdoing things.

this pretty much covers 90%+ of seo research for a kw... get yourself traffic travis or market samurai(slow as shit) or serpattack(best tool for this task in my oppinion) and have fun.

You might have to do basic backlinking though, as onpage seo is not enough for most kw.

Yeah, I was having a lot of issues with market samurai because of its horrible speed. I might look up the other tools you were talking about, but the only way I was using MS was with free trials.

I am starting to use TT for basic research, then I dig into a keyword I like with MS. MS is just to slow for broad research.

Since you already have MS. Why not research the top 3 site for their backlinks. Where it come from. After that, go through it and look for what ever method you can use to put your link at the same page.

Let say #1 got 10 backlinks, #2 got 7 backlinks and #3 got 5 backlinks. If you follow all their backlinks. You will get what position????? Since you can write article. Try to study how to do PAD.

MS might be useful for some things, but definitely not for its SEO competition tool. It's so slow and it slows everything else down.

I found my first micro niche with MNF, but I never paid for it. I wish I knew of a brainstorm tool like he one in MNF though. I want to be able to do niche and keyword research without paying for anything.
