Newbie needs opinion on direction to go

I have a site http://www.workatmyhouse.com. I'm have a web designer working on it right now, so it won't be so sucky soon, lol

I am doing away with the $5.00 books and am only going to have the $10 book.

For this niche, which do you think would make the most money? Selling my book on my site and have affiliates sell it, or let customers download the book for free and have ads on my site and make money from affiliate sales and ads?

The site is brand new, and I'm still learning how to pull traffic. Haven't gotten the hang of it yet, lol.

OK. I'm a newbie too, so don't assume I speak from experience (except that of being burnt very regularly...)

First comment. Your site looks professional, but it doesn't grab the visitor by the throat and MAKE THEM read. Check out the sales letters etc that you will have seen tons of. I hate them, but they work.

Second - and I don't have any ebooks experience - I suggest that you use every method you can. Focus on one at a time so as not to go round in circles, but diversify. You will find that some methods will work better for you than others - but you never know when things will go belly up. Take for instance the new eBay rules which have screwed so many sellers. Or Paypal perhaps doing the dirty on you one day. Or Google de-indexing you.

Don't keep all your eggs in one basket

Entirely correct. The site is just too professional. If you're looking to sell something, then you need to do what others have been doing - create a sales page

You don't need the introduction. You need to grip the reader IMMEDIATELY or they will click elsewhere.

You maybe only have one sentence - maybe two in which to do this!

Use bullet points and VERY short sentences. Use bold and highlight.

When writing, imagine for a moment that someone has come across your site by accident and your very life depends on making them stay. What would you say?

"Do YOU have what it takes?" 97% don't.
"Are you ready for the SCAMMERS?"
"Don't get EATEN ALIVE!"
"You need my HELP - 3 reasons why:"

I'm not saying these openers are any good - but maybe you get my drift.

PS - the quote about scam fraud and spam is great - they are emotive words

I might be tempted to publish the whole book as a website and drive traffic to it. Include a sign-up form for a mailing list so that they can be first to know every new 'secret'.

If it's any good, you should build a level of trust amongst your readers, so they will be more likely to buy based on your recommendations.

No doubt a number of the ideas you suggest could be linked to affiliate sales.

Is that the only ebook that you have. If you have another ebook and you think it's good you could release that one for free and then reference you main book (the $10).

Sorta like Free SEO Book and then inside the ebook that reference a script or program they sell to make the task easier.
