I'm just beginning and plan to put up a niche site as my first venture into IM. I don't have seomoz money to spend in my budget right now and was looking for a good value, well trusted, one time payment keyword research tool as a mainstay in my arsenal. I'm pretty sure with my web design skills, good brain, common sense, AND, keyword research tool, I can bring this all to fruition. agreed?

That having been said, I've recently heard of one called longtailpro. anyone here with any experience? I WAS going to go with market samurai on a suggestion from pat flynn of smart passive income blog but a lot has changed in the last year and I wonder if that's still the best value.

Thoughts?

Looking forward to seeing some answers here too.
Right now I've been concentrating my efforts addressing some other issues before I can launch some sites, so all the kw research I do, I do it manually.

Are you going to be going the niche site/adSense route as well for your first appearance? I've been all over these forums the past couple days and it blows my mind how many methods there are in this field. It's almost endless. I have a severe case of ADD as well as perfectionism so I'm one of those "has to be the perfect/best choice possible" people. That holds me back and keeps me from making decisions.

I've been using Niche Cracker recently , I got it here on the Items for sale section. Its pretty good, and its only like $35, compared to what you might spend on other software. Its worth taking a look at if you are on a tight budget. Coincidentally, I also have LongTailPro, and it is an impressive piece of software as well. They actually have a 10 day free trial available on their site, so you should go on their and try it out for yourself.

Oh man, are you me? ADD here too, I usually work as a translator and I started doing the occasional article writing some time ago, more and more lately, and with the amount most folks are willing to pay + my nasty perfectionism (+ ADD) I run into some problems from time to time (they give you shitty keywords without caring about broken Spanish texts, but I can't just deliver shitty texts, so sometimes I kind of short circuit) so... I'll definitely try to enter this business instead of being always the last link.

Actually I'm probably going to try 3 approaches, niche site/Adsense, niche site/Amazon and porn sites. Niche site for Adsense is undecided yet, and not a priority; with the Amazon site I'll try to build some ground slowly over the next months with the help of all the info here, but doing it my own way to see what happens, and with the porn sites I pretend to get some quick cash over the next month / couple of months.

I see porn as a bit risky as it may be easy to get banned from your ads network or from any other site that you may use to get traffic, so my long term goal is to set some good amazon/adsense sites to get some low but steady revenue and then escalate once I learn my way around.

I will probably post a "follow me on my trip to..." thread to help me focus and force me to work on it every week, as constant work is the only way to go.

Is long tail pro (just pro, not the platinum monthly subscription) going to provide me everything I'll need? I see that the pro version doesn't calculate keyword competitiveness. Is that something that's going to be imperative not only in ranking my first site but others after that?
