So say I want to rank for "flying donkeys" and I use the domain "flyingdonkeys.com". Does this have any direct pros for ranking? Thanks

Use search function and do some reading on "exact match domains" or "EMD"s

EMD will be an added advantage if you have high-quality content for the keyword. So you can go without any hesitation.

Nowadays, There is penalty for exact match domains or EMD

As per Google's EMD update, EMD domains will get the false result only if it has poor quality content and it will get good ranking by adding quality contents to the readers.

I would not say EMD have a penalty as many EMD rank, including mine. It is just that they are not as powerful as before. Anyway in most markets EMD are not available so you will have to use a PMD (partial match).

EMD has no value unless and untill you buid massive content around same Keyword and SILO keywords.

It used to, for a really long time. EMD nowadays will be helpful only if you have really high-quality content with this keyword.
