Newb Question About Pinging

Hello. I have a newb question about pinging, so please bear with me. Ive learned that when u post a link to your site on a blog, you should ping that blog post so the search engines visit that page. But, most of the blogs I commented on, it says my comment is awaiting moderation, so do I ping right away or wait until it gets approved and then ping?

Also, ive seen some really long ping lists here, but ive also heard that its not good to use really long lists because some services ping other services within that list and pinging the same server more than once is not good. Any advice here? Thank you.

I don't know about pinging blog comments it is something to look into though, but you should for sure ping every blog post, and also all web 2.0 pages and feeds that your blog feeds into too.

Thank you both for your help. Doesnt wordpress automatically ping everytime u make a post? I added some ping sites there. So I think thats taken care of.

What do you mean ping the feeds that my blog feeds into? Im not currently feeding my blog into any feeds, why & how should i do this?

Also, when building links, ive read here about "linking from different IPs". Im not quite sure i understand this. If i were to add blog comments for 5 different sites all at once, is this detectable that all those links were posted by the same ip? ( i mean, detectable to google). Is that what is meant here? What about setting up different accounts at SBM sites, can it be traced (by google) to the same IP? Is this what they mean or ma I way off?

You do not need to ping comment spam. It is completely unnecessary.

If you are trying to leave comment spam but still fighting to get it through moderators, you need to hone your backlink resourcing strategy. Use search.

You want as many different IPs as possible linking to your site. Individual sites may log your IP, but they do not send this information to google. Therefore, unless you are having problems with spamming one site in particular (which wont let you comment because it thinks you are a spammer), you do not need to worry about changing your IP to cover your tracks.

google cannot trace the IP address of comments that you have made because blogs do not advertise the IP address for comments, so that is a bunch of BS.

"Linking from different IPs" - I assume that this is referring to the IP address of the site that you are posting a link on. If all of you links come from a network of sites that are all on the same IP address, it throws up a red flag. Don't worry, this is typically only an issue when you build your own network, push links from your own sites, and don't have the common sense to spread the network across several IP addresses.

WP does automatically ping blog posts. Wait until your comments are live until you ping other sites. The idea is to get the spiders to notice the link you threw up.
