So I have began my first personal website with affiliate links selling other companies products. I made the website just last month (August 2011), and I have started making backlinks to it using certain keywords. As a trial, I started with a gaming website geared towards the World of Warcraft crowd. So I decided to pick my keywords from the Google Keyword Tool and used another program to see how hard it would be to rank high on it. The word I chose to optimize is "World of Cataclysm." Now, what does this mean? Does this mean that people literally type in the word "World of Cataclysm" into google's search box. Or does it mean that they type in something different? Like "World of Warcraft Cataclysm Guide"? Well, after 3 weeks of making backlinks with this keyword, I am ranked number 22 on google's search engine using this keyword I chose. So, the previous question remains. Are people literally typing in the keyword that the Google Keyword Tool mentions? If you google that keyword "World of Cataclysm", there are other sites before mines that say things like "World of Warcraft Cataclysm" in the title. As for mines, I went with "World of Cataclysm" in my title. In the beginning I just wanted mass traffic. Something to get my site going with traffic. But now, I am thinking I should make this page more targeted and attract buyers instead. So, now I am thinking about making this page more targeted for another keyword, like "cataclysm guide". The traffic potential on this keyword is not as high though. Is it possible to make a page rank high with another similar keyword? If anyone wants to see my site, let me know and I'll give you the link. I am a total newb, so I won't post it here. I read the Terms and I don't have enough posts or time on this time. Also, don't want to get banned or with an infraction so early. This site looks jumping with goodies.
