Newb here, Any suggestions for SEO newb?

I'm trying to get my videography site going and want to get it to the first page if possible and have been reading a lot by googling...but for some reason nothing has "clicked" yet. I guess for me....I would rather have some step by step tutorial like on Lynda style. Any suggestions would help. Thanks
