well, this forum is jam-packed with information, after all it is a SEO forum :)

I'm not going to delve into everything as I would be sitting here write all day and I still wouldn't cover everything you need to know as a newbie. But I'll try to give a general idea of what google wants and what they say they want, so here we go...

Google brags a lot about high quality content and organic growth of a website. By organic growth they mean that slow and steady wins the race, ie: you should grow your site slow and steady like a snail, but be consistent. More specifically...

- publish content slowly (a few articles a day at most, especially if your domain name and site are fresh, if you're using expired domain or non-expired domain that still has content indexed in google you might be able to get away with publishing more pieces of content each day, say 10-20 articles a day)

- build links slowly but gradually and - optional but recommended - along with the links also get some traffic too, but not just one-time traffic, but consistent, quality traffic (even if it's social media and UGC traffic from sites like Reddit, Stackoverflow, Quora, Pinterest, etc it will still be better than no traffic at all)

Now, the high quality content part that google brags about is true because a big part of how google decides how to rank websites depends on the feedback that google gets from its users and if the users don't like your content google will be able to "see" this and they will tank your website faster than you can say OUCH! ... So, focusing on quality content is one of the best SEO tips I can give you that - coincidentally or not - is actually what google wants too, especially since they also have a direct interest in stealing your high quality content to train their retarded AI, so - for google - high quality content is double-important (it pleases its users and it helps google improve their AI)

But the backlinks part is not what google wants. Google have been saying for decades that backlinks don't matter, they're not important, etc... but backlinks are still one of the most important ranking factors, so if you wish to rank (especially in tough niches / industries and / or for tough keywords) you are going to need backlinks at some point, even if this displeases google. As long as you follow a common sense practices when building links and google can't catch you you're going to be fine. Just don't listen to google that backlinks don't matter as they really do :)

To learn more about link building read this:

So... content and backlinks... What else?

Well, like all big and ultra-rich companies that have stayed in power for decades and now they can't step down or lower themselves to the level of the plebes (us, the people) google also loves to brainwash and manipulate people and one of the manipulations they pull on SEOs is they force us to make our websites mobile-friendly because google wants to push everyone from desktop to mobiles. Why they'd want this I don't know. But it doesn't matter either, but why this matters for you is because you need to have 2 versions of your site: one that loads on desktop computers and one that's mobile friendly and loads on mobile devices (smartphones, ipads, laptops, etc).

Besides, I've heard some people saying that google doesn't even considers websites for indexing nowadays if they're not mobile-friendly, and if this is true it's a big deal so you have to abide by this rule if you wish to get google's love... or at least have a chance at it :)

And speaking of mobile-friendliness, this falls within the technical SEO category, which is a big deal nowadays. So, if you wish to make your site loved by google you gotta tick all of the checkboxes of technical SEO: crawlability and indexability, lack of errors, etc.

Here's a bit on technical SEO, but don't limit yourself to this post only, look more on technical SEO up in google / YT, or even on this forum, there are lots of posts that discuss this:
https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/technical-seo-guide-my-checklist-and-useful-tips.1389710/

Maybe also related to technical SEO I should probably mention other stuff like topical authority and site structuring, both of which (along with schema markup and other crap like this) can be important too in certain circumstances. So, read up on these 2, too:

Topical authority... https://www.oncrawl.com/technical-seo/importance-topical-authority-semantic-seo/
Site structuring / siloing... https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/seo-siloing-2023-the-last-siloing-guide-youll-ever-need.1502244/

And since I'm at recommending stuff, you might want to check this out too when you have time:

Personally, I've not read the guide above because it's been too long and - more importantly - it's been too technical for my poor brain, so I would have understood nothing from it probably :p

But Splishsplash is one of the guys to follow if you're serious about learning SEO...

These being said, I will end this mini rant / guide here because I wouldn't know what to cover next as there are so many things that you probably don't know about / understand as a new comer to SEO... stuff like what backlinks are, DF vs NF links, anchor texts, sitemaps / robots.txt, semantic SEO, CWV and LSI terms, etc...

But to address your unasked question in a few short steps...

step 1... do keyword research to find easy keywords to target
step 2... make a website that's: beautiful, fast, clean, easy to navigate, mobile friendly, and error free
step 3... create and publish content around the keywords you've researched, at a 1-2 articles a day pace, but keep doing it for 6-9 months like clockwork
step 4... build links (both internal and external) using the right anchors, to the right pages
step 5... analyze the results, then adjust, fix, and optimize for better rankings
step 6... when / if the website tanks don't despair, but simply start over with a new website (SEO has become a cat and mouse game between us and google)

One last note that I think is important: google will die one day (I predict before 2030) as a search engine... or, if they won't die, their market share will plummet in the coming years.

And this information is important because even if google shits on your website like they do with the sites of many other honest and hard working SEOs, don't throw it away or abandon it as other search engines that will be replacing google in the future might find value in it. If you've poured your soul and resources into creating a great looking site that provides value to your readers keep it (if it's financially feasible) even if google kills it, you never know when it will start flooding you with traffic once google's hegemony is over
