Ok.. I want to make a website to make some money.. but I'm CLUELESS and BLANK!

I've been brainstorming trying to figure out what to make.. but GAH!
A video sharing site.. a PLR article site.. I just don't know

I'm tired of everyone elses sales pitch site.. that's 5 billion pages long and eventually leads to a "Buy Now" button.. I want something that's actually nice to look at and something fun.

Any ideas what kind of website I should make?

If you've never started a site before i would recommend just starting a simple blog on something you're interested in. Theres a lot of little stuff to learn and this is a could way to get started, you may not make much or any money but you're learning. Once you get familiar with the basics you can expand from there.

I recently created a new web site for the sole purpose of making money online via aff. programs. I'm setting it up as a mall with links to dozens of web sites.

    You can try that... :D

If your new to making sites; start with buying some hosting service and play around with some software like wordpress. As soon as you get an idea, grab hold of a domain and get to work.

Do you have any web design experience?

Either way, brainstorm and create a niche and make one each of all the freebies (squidoo lens, hubpage, wordpress, blogger etc), then while signing up and researching those, you will get ideas for your site and might even refine your niche.

Then create a wordpress blog and experiment with different themes.
Then create a simple html/php/css site and download and install scripts available from this site and get ur hands wet installing and debugging php and take it from there.

My first site has gone through numerous changes.
Jus keep on trying new things and changing things.

Most important, put yourself in the shoes of your website visitor. If you don't see a reason for scrolling/navigating to another page, your visitor won't either. Just having a pretty theme or design doesn't mean much.

Actually, once I got tired of my sites after 3 months of being a newb and deleted everything on my hostgator account and started all over. I wasn't earning much on adsense, so I thought.. why try to improve something that is fundamentally crappy... Sounds dumb, but it's a kick in the ass and things turned out better. Don't be afraid to experiment !

Spend as much time getting backlinks as you do designing your site.
