So around a month ago, I started this account along with my friend. It wasn't clear for us how we were gonna grow it so we just posted ~3 times a day and followed few people hoping that they'd follow us back.
Then we used the three-day Instagress trial on normal speed to follow followers of popular accounts and also like their posts. We liked the bot so we paid $10 for a 30-day subscription.
I know Massplanner or FL are better because they allow for unlimited accounts but for now we're running only one account and didn't want to spend a lot of money.
Here are some things I think you people should know. I'd really appreciate your advice/thoughts/opinion!
- I've been manually collecting basic statistics at the same time every day, before going to bed (1AM GMT -3). I check followers, followings and quantity of likes the posts of the day got.
- For the first two and a half weeks, 3 pictures were posted per day. We were afraid of saturating my followers so posts have dropped to one or two a day.
- We use Hootsuite to schedule posts. (It's free!
)
- If we schedule two pics for the day, we post the second one at least 3 hours after the first one, around 2PM EST and 5PM EST. If it's a single picture, then it's posted at 5PM EST. Of course the timing is not perfect, we don't want to look like robots posting at the same time everyday.
- It's now been almost 9 days since we paid for Instagress. For the first 4 days we used normal speed following and liking. Then we switched to fast and also enabled auto-commenting.
- In these 9 days, our followers went from 842 to 2084 (+1242). Followings went from 1248 to 2955*.
*I spent two and a half of the nine days unfollowing, which reduced our followings by around 1000. Had I not done this, our followings would be close to 4k.
- When we started our account, we were used to see like ratios of 20-30%. But the ratio is continuously falling. In the last week, it dropped from 15% to 10%.
- Posts only get like 5 comments on average. Exceptions are those posts where we ask an interesting question related to the image. Those get 15+ comments. We do this once every 3-4 days not to saturate our followers with questions.
- We bought a domain so that in the future we have a simple site where we show people who our affiliates are and what they sell. There are countless goods related to our niche and we thought we could take advantage of that.
- I watermark all pictures with our logo + instagram name.
- There is no pattern in the design of our pictures. Pictures are either posted just as found with only the watermark being added or we think of a decent design for it. (neither my friend or me know much about graphics) This worries me a lot because I believe if all of our pictures had something that identified them, then our account would be more attractive and look more professional. Maybe a simple frame would be enough? Idk...
I'm a patient person but I'm starting to think that the growth is too slow. If the growth speed doesn't change, we'll be gaining say 4k followers per month. By the time the account is big enough to make money off it, I'll already have lost incentive in creating content.
