I am just a bit ahead of you myself. I have a site and have put content into it and put a couple affiliate links in there. I am still mainly focusing on getting it higher in the search listings. I still need to customize the look of it but as it is its just a default theme.
The main thing I have noticed that I am guilty of is spreading myself out too much on one project. My intention was to "sniper" it and focus on one or two specific terms that have a decent monthly search with little competition. However I have noticed that I have not been using that specific phrase enough and have just been using a lot of LSI's. Well in all reality I am letting the subject matter of my articles dictate the flow of my keywords. I feel this may be why I am having trouble but I have only had this site up for a little over 2 months.
The best advice I could give you is to keep doing what youre doing and when it comes time for the rubber to meet the road try not to over think what youre doing. The strategy of IM is really simple and sometimes its easy to over think it and end up spreading out your efforts too thin.
