I've never promoted a clickbank product before, or anything through affiliate marketing really. I found a product on CB that is very related to a niche site I already own (a WP site)that runs adsense ads. In fact, the title of the product is almost identiical to one of my existing menu titles on my site. The menu goes to a page with all posts from that category, being the same name as the product I want to promote. I was thinking about changing the destination URL of this menu title to go to the CB product's page instead. Is this ok with clickbank? Secondly, how would this be done? Being that the site is a wordpress site, I am not aware of any way to do this, but then again, I'm not super savy with wordpress either.

Thanks for any input.

if the site makes anything off of adsense i probably wouldn't do that. g tends to be pretty touchy and it wouldn't be worth risking getting slapped or banned if you're making anything significant off of it

i would find another way to market cb on the site

if you want to redirect that existing page you have, can use this wordpress plugin.

Really? From what I've read, google doesn't care if you have other adverts on the same page as long as the colors are clearly different and such. Being that it is just a link to another page, I wasn't too worried about adsense. I was more worried about whether or not putting a link in my menu like that is OK with CB, I know it wouldn't be for adsense, so I wanted to know what CB thinks about it. Now that I think about it, does anyone know of an easy to read list of do's and don'ts for clickbank affiliates?

The site doesn't make more than a few bucks a month off adsense anyways, and the potential for the CB product is around $35 per sale, so I figured this a try.

Thanks for the link to the WP plugin reXur, just installed it and it works perfectly. Now I just need to figure out how to cloak the link, never done that and will need to search up on it... unless someone has a suggestion.

Just create a folder on your server and name it to match your url.

Ex.

If your url is site.com/page-one, create a folder named page-one

Then,

Create a text file containing the following code:

Code:
<?php
header("Location:Your Clickbank Link Here");
exit;
?>

Save that text file as index.php, and upload it to the folder you created.

The page will then redirect to your affiliate link.

Yeah def be careful when you are trying to generate ANY type on confusion - you may be penalised for it.

I get what you guys mean about confusing people, but honestly, the product I'd be linking to is actually more helpful and relevant than the information I had in place of it.

Thanks themidiman for the tip on the cloaking, just got that to work. It took me a minute to get it, since I had already installed the wordpress plugin, it wasn't working. Then I realized your method was INSTEAD of using the plugin. Uninstalled it and then it was working great.

OK, I have another "is this allowed" question. I have a linkpush account, what if I were to create a linkpush and use the link to my CB product as the URL for the backlinks? Since I just created the redirect, it would go to mysite.com/cbproduct and then redirect to the product's LP. I am assuming direct linking to the CB product is not allowed? I just don't wanna go and do things without knowing whether or not I am risking my account.

I direct link all day long. From yahoo answers and youtube. Don't know if it's allowed or not, but I get paid every week.

Hey, as long as you are getting paid, they must not care. If they did, I'm sure they'd catch on by now. Just figured I'd ask before doing something I can't take back. I've read many posts here about people losing their adsense accounts for some reason or another.

if you're not too worried about adsense then pushing for cb (or other types of offers) would be worth it. maybe if you do it right g will never notice and your adsense account will be fine

interesting to hear. i've heard cb bans accounts for direct linking

i also blast my offers as backlinks however i use a programming trick to read the traffic source when it comes in from a backlink. the visitor is then double redirected to the cb offer

this makes it to where my site will be the referer instead of the backlink source. if cb ever decides to audit the referer url (my site) they won't be redirected to the offer like they would if they clicked the backlink because they are coming straight to the url :D
