New TLD's - SEO?

Hi everybody,

For all of my websites I've been reluctant to purchase any other TLD than .com or .co.uk, however for my next website I'm struggling to find a domain I like, but I can find one with the new TLD extension (you know, .photography, .pub etc).

Has anybody had any experience with these domains and ranking them? I'm scared that they will perform very poorly in search...

Any input would be appreciated.

they will perform poor but after 5 years or so they will start competing with old TLD domains like .app , .blog , .web etc

I had no problem seeing .xxx domains ranking haha

It's about trust, really. I look at a site and see blabla.biz I become immediately suspicious of it. I don't think the new TLD's will stick. Not anytime soon anyway.

Hahah 1337python, and yeah bartosimpsonio I agree - I have the same feeling when coming across a .biz domain and I guess the same will apply to these new TLDs... guess I best just try and keep thinking of another decent domain

In the early days of .BIZ and others there was lots of hype. The new new thing actually looked interesting. But as time passed by, end users themselves chose .com as the definitive commercial domain. If you don't own YOURBRAND.com then you don't own the brand, period. Buying .BIZ and others never substituted .COM and so we have what we have now. The only reason I'd buy .BIZ would be to keep any squatters from buying THEBRAND.biz when I already owned THEBRAND.com

That is because your in SEO, the general public doesn't share your distrust for other tld's, however seo wise i don't think .web TLD's will do great, but then again maybe they do. just buy one and give it a shot, everything you read here is pure speculation.

Only a handful of them will work good. most of them will become "not so popular" because of price and most of them will become "not so popular" because of length of tld.

there are many things to consider before buying a domain .

Anyone know why some of the extensions are like $200+ per year? I find that ridiculous when I could get a .com for $5...

Probably just to "up the hype", people will think that because it's expensive it must be good. Similarly they will also be praying on people wanting to protect their brand and being forced to pay ridiculous amounts.

After typing a really long reply, and trying to modify it several times, I kept getting auto-moderated. Anyway, yes, they perform poorly in search. Just look at the serps.

I'm going to disagree with many on here.

The new TLDs are very niche specific and I'm sure won't rank for anything other than their niche, but.......

I've set up a niche directory site with the suffix .DIRECTORY - without a single backlink it is ranking #14 in its niche. It is showing as DA #1, and PA #1.

I've no doubt that if you are clever you will be able to rank easier with these domains.
