I guess its ok to charge that much high otherwise everyone would be able to get his own domain extension making internet a huge mess.

185k is the application fee, I think in total it costs around 500k - and that's assuming you get granted the tld and there are no objections, if there are it can go to auction.
Obviously if you get the tld though you have the rights then to sell on every single domain name under that tld!

This is big business way of taking over the internet. Think about it... .nike will control their tld... what sites do you think will rank first in search results? A heavily seo'd .com with nike shoes or a .nike extension? Nike will be able to determine who gets one of their domains and consumers will know that the merchandise they are purchasing comes from a legit site that is actually affiliated with nike.
Bad for bootleggers and some seo's / small companies etc... though.

This is amazing, now all those new extensions are starting to make sense.
185k isn't that big of a cost, and even a small company could afford it if they're internet based or serious about web presence.
it's amazing what small companies DO afford but overlook how important advertising is.
