If a business wanted a small site with say 8 pages,
info about service
contact us page etc

How can you keep the page fresh apart from hits..

Like if they won;t be updating it even monthly with new posts.. would it be advisable to slightly edit the page every so often?

Or is that a stupid question?

Yes, update the pages. Altough try to add some content on them too, not just change the existing one.

To be very honest, in order to keep a website "fresh", you need to periodically add content, but that doesn't mean it needs to be every week or even every month.

Although Google would have you believe you need to add content every few hours, the reality is quite different. Look around this forum and you'll see that people have microniche sites that they haven't actually updated for years and are still ranking and pulling in a modest monthly income.
