New site Big G PR

Hi guys.
My first question after a long time lurking...

I built a site about a software that I love. Sort of a repository of knowledge about it. The domain is completely new, never registered before, contains the exact software name (incredibly the official software site uses the softwareacronym.org kind of domain and not the complete software name) and only has original content published in 2 languages, written and translated by me.

Site went live on 4th Feb.

My question is: is it normal that the site went from PR0 to PR3 in 4 months?


With all the things I'm learning, I thought it was a lot harder to go up on PR.

The PR update was a few days back and I had a couple of sites the same age as yours (some younger) jump to PR3 and a ton that went to PR2, so yes, it is normal. PR is pretty easy to come by. You just need links form other sites with PR.

The funny thing is I never did anything to create backlinks.
Apart from a link on my forum signature at the original site software, I have virtually 0 backlinks. I never bothered creating backlinks because the site is kind of a hobby and only has one adsense block. It's my pet project.

I have other (much smaller) sites, about the same age, that already have a lot of backlinks (black and white hat) an only made it to PR1.

Original content may explain it? Somehow I'm starting to believe that is much easier to rank well if the content is all original.

You either work to create original work or backlinks. Or both...
