hey,
just found out about this site and IM in general.
So far I've got no clue about where to start reading up about the basic terms and explanations of what this all is about and how to get started with it. I've read through a few posts and saved some stuff for later, but so far I have no clue how to make use of any of that.

Any pointers to where to go to learn the basics?

Welcome. Get ready be flooded with information and be very confused.

When you are ready to try something, the key is to not just from method to method. Research and really learn 1 specific method -- then tweak it until it works for you.

Hey,
I wasn't planning on just jumping into it and hoping for quick cash or anything.
I definitely want to learn how to do it properly and then tinker around with whatever method I find pleasing.

I'm currently a student and my experience with IM is pretty much nonexistent.
