New keywords positions fluctuations

Whenever I publish content on new keywords, edit pages for certain keywords or start a new website, the pages fluctuate their rankings pretty strong. (from positions 100+ to top8)
Is that normal? How long should I wait to see how google ranked my article/page(...) so I can improve the copy?

I have one new website where I have not tried to change or improve posts once published. The same kind of dance you see, I also see on some (most) posts for several months now. So you don’t need to wait more than a few days or a week before making any changes.

There are other variables that may not make this as simple as “improving” the copy. Even after improving the copy it may not get stable rankings. The dance may continue. Something like this could be due to weak backlink profile or some other variable in relation to your competitors in search where you are lacking.

The "dancing" is something that is really interesting to me, and something that I don't understand. So I would be grateful for more insights on this topic.

A simple way of explaining it: googles algorithm is “changing its mind” about your article. It doesn’t look at the document once and then make up it’s mind permanently. Googles algorithm consistently reevaluates the document, and if rank changes, it changed it’s mind again.

The content in the document is important to its decision but it is not all the algorithm takes into account.

This is pretty normal, especially for newish sites. once you have some history there won't be so much variance in the dance, but imo it never goes away pemanently. Google keeps shuffling your keywords around.

Mostly it happens when you do changes in your sites and also I think that your keyword is high competitive.
But it will gets settle to one position. Because of constant updating of Google to serve best content on top.

This is completely natural; you should expect this.

In fact, I readily change my commercial pages on my blogs.

I expect the ranks to crash for a few weeks and then they will recover.

You know what the secret is?

The rest of your site must consist of high-quality content.

This is content that actually answers the questions and needs of people who find themselves on your site.

If you manage to do that then you should be okay.

You should ride out the fluctuations because eventually it will even out.

Your main focus should be on stocking your website with truly useful information.
